Hi all.  Thinking this is something I can at least do myself lol.  I need to run the wire from the detent solenoid on the T400 to the kickdown switch and just wondering what gauge the wire should be.  Cheers Ron

It is pretty small. Just a normal wire like is used everywhere through a car. Would be lucky to be 0.5sqmm.

Thanks for that.  Just wanted to make sure before I start trying to make it.  I notice you can buy them on EBay to suit H series T400's which have 2 pin plugs at the trans.  My trans only has one terminal.  Any main reason why that might be? Cheers Ron

On another related issue while I am at it.  Legally, does the positive wire from the battery have to be red?  Only reason I ask is mine will be run from the rear and the heavier wire being used has a black covering. Cheers Ron

Just buy a red insulated cable with black sheath but insulation doesn’t have to be red as far as I know. Run a 0V one too along with the 12V cable. You can buy them as figure 8 as well. Probably something like 25-35sqmm. Double insulated welding cable is the cheapest way to buy it. Get the ends crimped with lugs and use terminals with studs. Run the 0V lead to the engine where it normally goes and a strap to the body at the radiator support and at the battery too.

Thansk again.  Sorry I should have mentioned my auto elec has already roughed in the cable (seriously big) from the hatch to the front (not through the firewall yet), and I just wasn't sure if i need to cover it in red heat shrink or so to ensure it's legal.  Realise i could raise these matters with him but just trying to do anything i can myself before I get him back to finish off. Saves some money too lol.  Cheers Ron

I can’t remember why there would be two connections on the kick down solenoid. Maybe it is for a pollution transmission on W size (HX-HZ). Pretty sure my HJ only has the one wire/pin.

Yes, HX, HZ & VB TH400 had a 2-pin connector. 1 for the kick-down solenoid & 1 for the TCS switch. The TCS was part of the emissions gear for ADR27A.
