G'Day,

Anybody have the measurement for where to drill holes for lefthand side mirror on an LJ?

Is it the same on both sides?

Can't find anything in parts manual or online..

Cheers,

Liz :)

Yes, it should be but thought I’d ask the question just in case it’s different. I don’t want to have multiple drill holes if I get it wrong

Cheers,

Liz

Hi Liz,
If you are putting the LHS mirror on Pinky for track work...you could consider an alternative like this ( not sure this is exactly the one I have).
Clips on/off over the existing rear view mirror. I have one in the green Nc car, fantastic bit of gear. You can pretty well see out of the rear window AND both side windows, from the rear vision mirror.
Prob. a bit ugly for road us, but great on track.

I don't have a measurement, but here's a pic of an old GTR I used to own. Looks like a good match for the drivers side position

Projecting a line down the edges of the door division channels we can see the top rear corners of the mirror pads are positioned basically the same on both doors.

This is a great idea, Col. I will indeed get one. I already have a slightly bigger than standard unit in the pink car from when it was raced previously but the more vision the better for a learner like me :D

LH mirror already purchased as well so it will be installed as I really find the odd mirror on only one side a bit annoying ;)

Thanks for the tip.

Cheers,

Liz :)

I didn't think that there was dealer instructions for fitting Liz, but if you mark it out & have someone place the mirror in proposed position, ie holding it there for you, you should be able to check out your vision & if it's all good. Install it mate Gary.

Pretty sure Rob mirrored the position on his car & seems all good.

I expect GMH would have supplied fitting instructions with the NASCO left hand door exterior rear view mirror accessory package.

Yep, not much mirror to look at on those LC ones.

I had the same little round driver's side mirror on a HG and it was mostly a waste of time trying to see anything. Big lump of a car with a little tiny mirror looked ridiculous  :tease:

Cheers,

Liz :)

Next photo shows there is a very slight twist between door mount and mirror boss0b1b37acdda900f5d1b1b9d38570a6b8.jpg
They are slightly asymmetrical although to be honest I think you would be hard pressed to notice it on the car. Could be wrong of course.

I was assuming that you where meaning where the mounting positions the same left to right there bat. Which is correct. However if you mean the stem. They are left & right ie different part numbers mate.

LC has two holes. One for bolt the other for the alignment pin.

Chinese crap mirror cost $225 from Muscle Car Parts...

Attached File  Broken glass from MCP Mirror copy.jpg   187.4K   8 downloads

The glass fell out the first time the door was closed...

Attached File  MCP Mirror without glass.jpg   88.64K   8 downloads

and I was left with a mirror head without glass.

Lucky I had an old HQ mirror head.

Buy Australian if you can. F@K the Chinese!

Cheers,

Liz :)

Hi Liz,

this happened to mine and MCP were happy to give me another one once they had confirmation of receipt and received the broken one. The second mirror head had a stronger mirror fixing.

Mine fell out while my wife was adjusting it doing 110kph on the HWY.

Marty

Oh thanks Marty. I’ll contact them and see what happens. Hopefully the workshop still has the mirror head, I’m assuming they would’ve swept up the glass though.

Cheers,

Liz :)

They don't want the glass back!

If I had to guess - It looks like they've had a few of these and they're getting mirror glass cut and fitted in Australia to all the returns. (the mirror edging looked slightly different)
