G'day all

Just wanted to see if anyone has had experience with the truetrac made by Speedmaster? Spoke to a diff shop today in melbourne who uses them and claimed they were a cheaper and potentially better choice over the Harrop (Eaton) supplied ones? Any truth to this?

Diff shop said they can supply the Harrop ones, at a higher cost obviously, but was insistent that the Speedmaster one was up to the task.

Just trying to stay away from junk if I'm going to be spending $$$$ on a diff and then get a dodgy LSD in it that needs to be swapped.

Any first hand experience appreciated!

I have heard some stuff is OK, have heard the alloy heads are OK as long as you throw away the valves and springs. My problem with some of this is the adage you get what you pay for always rings true, and using cheap stuff is like playing Russian roulette. You can buy an Eaton Trutrac on EBay delivered for under $900, Speedmaster one is about $600. $300 is cheap Insurance when you are spending $2500+ on a diff.

So im deciding between a BW78 and a 9inch, am leaning towards BW at this stage (31 spline) and the shop that I spoke to today recommended BW for my application

i actually worked there for a month, and can say that the Speedmaster Torque worm LSD's are quite good and pricing at trade level was quite reasonable and good profit could be made

the centres are assembled in house by a very reputable and experience diff builder

Also, there are some big very well known shops buying heaps of these centres and selling to the public

Where did you work? Where are the LSDs made and assembled?

A number of the harrop truetracs are not off the shelf eatons, they have been tweeked and played with to make them better than the standard ones, thats the pro

The con, pain to deal with company. Know they had big issues with stock recently, dont know if it extended to bw diff parts.
What they tell you for time availability and what they supply are 2 very different things.

If you are considering a BW78 then have a look at the KAAZ.

Do they do a 31 spline ?

Thought only Harrop did

I am not aware of a 31 spline version of the KAAZ.

If I had to choose between a 31 spline Torsen/Truetrac and a 28 spline KAAZ I would take the KAAZ.

The KAAZ will lock and supply equal power to both wheels. The Torsen does not lock, the Torsen typically has a 2.5:1 torque bias (roughly 70/30). This means around 70% of the torque is delivered to the wheel with the most traction.

How did you go with this one 74LH?

I am needing a centre and gears for a BW M78, 28 spline.

does not appear to be any Eaton in stock, all back order.

my diff guy actually recommended the Speedmaster (which brought me to this thread)... but putting anything procomp in a car, all be it a dirty VN, just doesn't sit well with me...

the Kaaz sounds good, but very pricey around $1,600.

Must say, i would go the 9" if I could start again... I thought the BW was going to be a much cheaper alternative.

VN should be an M75

Regardless the centres fit

Try Motospecs

They also distribute the Eatons

My diff guy warned me about the Chinese Trutraks.

Matter of fact he was changing yet another broken one out when i went to ask him about them.

I bought a Eaton on his recommendation.
