Some of you may have seen Harry in the intro forum . and since my Business is in Hibernation like so many down here !  i thought id share what i have been up to and trying to do before my friends in certain areas get locked down.

So like all things when you buy them , many of us like to give them a personal touch something that says WOW to you . So Harry is undergoing some Mods that i want to do to make him what i want , seems he was quite the trailer queen over the last few years........and some things i discovered under the glamour was not done that well (or to a standard that i felt was as good as it should have been)

Its been difficult to get pics of a lot of the work so far with restrictions but this is what I have done so far.

1. got some tyres that meant business ( Pirelli P7 CORSA classic) tyres

 rears 285/40/15

fronts 225/50/15

2. then thanks to Wayne at smooth suspension we got some custom King springs made

 rear 245 lbs

fronts 750 lbs

with custom Valved Koni shocks from and rear

3. Got some Harrop steering arms and replaced all broken Nolathane bushes in control arms diff mounts etc (all the bottom runs OEM rubber now)

4. Next we took out the Motor and sent it down to Glenn Wells engines to start the Stroker build .

we got a Howards 4" crank to make Harry a 383

Manley Rods

CP pistons

all other bits , bearings etc etc

Nathan Higgins is Building the Heads and fitting S/S valves w/ Pac12 Racing dual Ti springs

He got a Camshaft from the US for me to suit the build and Glenn has now polished it ( 246/263 @.50 , 620 valve lift and 109 LSA)

and we are Using a ACCUFAB throttle body flows 1278 CFM and Super Victor EFI Intake Manifold

new custom sump with oil cooler and remote filter

Lee down at Melbourne Performance Center will tune him when his ready

from there he goes in for a rear spoiler and some minor paint work (classic auto refinishing) with Bruce in Bayswater

4 pt roll cage from Bond

some recaro seats if they ever get released (covid strikes again)

5. got a new F body T56 Magnum 6 speed (if anyone wants to buy a stock T56 and clutch and fly wheel let me know)

and Covid allowing Harry and i get to run around Bathurst in Feb 2021

either way Harry will be trouble free for my lifetime anyway .

I'll get more pics when i can move more than 5 klms..

hope everyone is well and having fun!

WOW, love that colour.

Any chance of more pictures?

I have been meaning to ask a question on this forum for quite a while that the guy building my instrument cluster has asked me.

I hope you don't mind me asking here, but since you are building a high spec LS motor and seem to be well versed in these motors, can you or anyone else tell me

how to find out "the number of pulses per revolution of the crank"

Regards Mando.

G'day Mando,

From the factory, Gen III engines (LS1 here in Aus) had 24 tooth "reluctor wheels" on the crankshaft, whereas Gen IV engines (LS2 / L76 / L98 / L77 / LS3 / LSA / LS7 in Aussie cars) had 58 tooth reluctor wheels.

If you look at John's first picture above you can see the reluctor wheel on the back of the crankshaft...

post-68293-0-08905900-1597303505.jpg

The reluctor pickup is at the back of the block just above the starter motor, 24x is a black sensor, 58x is a grey sensor.

The problem is that you can change either the crankshaft or just the reluctor wheel so if the engine has been messed with it may be different to how it left the factory.

Thanks Andrew,

I have a LS3 crate motor from the states with a 58 tooth reluctor wheel.

Does that mean I get 58 pulses per revolution of the crank?

Don't know much about the running gear of cars or how they work.

Regards Mando.

Pirelli P7 CORSA classic - Mmm they are same tasty tyres

I'll be interested how you find the spring rates.

I have 750lb front and 200lb rear with a 6 cylinder (so pretty close in weight to a LS) and if anything I would go to a heavier spring in the front.

You do have a lot wider rear tyres though.

thanks everyone , the heads came back today . just trying to figure pout the sump , as the old one we feel after being modified to fit doesn't hold an acceptable level of oil for any track work.  will be fitting a remote oil filter and thermostat controlled oil cooler.

added some more pics of harry too.

thanks Peter , i haven't driven him yet so keen to see how it goes too. all i know is with the old set up it was horrible in anything other than dead straight.  Wayne  has some friends in touring car masters the aided in the rates he chose and also keeping in mind this is predominantly a road car . hopefully this summer we will be allowed to drive a car in Victoria

Yep, 58 pulses on the crank trigger per revolution. You don't really need to know how it all works, you just need to get the correct wiring loom (as the connector on the crank sensors are different between x24 and x58) and apply the correct setting in the ECU software.

Well, unless you're using an OEM computer, then you'll need a Gen IV ECU, although you can buy converter boxes these days to use either crank trigger.

P.S. Sorry for the thread-jack, John, back on subject... Harry still hasn't got a bobtail! :<_<:

hi mate , the car is using

an after market double diaphragm booster with a HZ master cylinder and commodore disks and calipers (soon to be changed to Vari brakes if i can get them to fit inside my 15" wheels ) they do a nice competition friendly 304 x 32 mm rotor (like AP offer) and the TCM cars use) as we do not feel 26 and 28 mm rotors from w/wood etc will be up to the job once they get hot.

but if your running 17's you can do anything

HeyTeam Torana , well its been tuff getting stff done and parts delivery domestically was slower than international due to reduced staffing capacity's across the board in oz.

any how the Dash set up turned up toady thanks to Peter Nash in QLD

pother progress is fixed the abortion of the job the builder of this car did on the transmission  tunnel .....someone said he was a expert metal worker..........holy shit it was bad. so bad, my god it was bad! anyhoo (2 full days later its neat as a pin underneath.

throttle body is on , fuel rail brackets , new injectors and a lot of other things that didn't line up as they should are being custom made, sounds simple changing an intake right , but lots to get re-made . engine should be back in by the weekend and new yokes made etc for the Magnum 6 spd as it differs from the T56 ...hopeful Lee at MPC gets Harry next week for the run in and first dyno session.

4pt Cage with diagonals (gussets) and harness bar is in Q at Brown Davis for building this week, so everything should be in to paint it all at the same time.

not much to show but here is the dash and TB mounted

Attached File  remote filter.jpg   16.8K   6 downloadsthe flu held up progress and we are now well over 100 hours of labor cleaning up some very very poor workmanship from before . I actually cant believe some of the stuff we found ...sorry I'm quite mad about it still .....

Fixed up sway bar mounts (moved and made them actually work) amongst many other under body and hidden issues

re done most of the wiring in the entire car (with appropriate fixings proper tapes and the like )

fitted remote oil filter and temp thermostat thru the new oil cooler so it only works above a certain temp fitted all new lines and fittings

fitted 2 litre catch can  most things remail hidden from engine bay to retain the look of what i bought

all bracket work done by hand on the English wheel and some other machine

new tail shaft that will take the added power

fitted new gauge cluster and wiring (thanks peter nash for a simple well made product that works)

Brown Davis roll cage done with custom gussets  etc

many many many things like painting bolts and little jobs

found out it has AU falcon front calipers ... got some DS2500 pads and made them fit .....will need to get better brakes , spoke with Gary at Bendigo muscle car shop (does TCM stuff) he may have a solution as i want to keep 15's and wilwood don't make anything that will work for track use we feel. (all too narrow)

anyhow that's it for now . so i have said it before its off for tuning friday we hope . the issue was we kept finding dodgy shit that needed complete eradication and remaking .

Harry is now almost beautiful inside and out and will work like a proper functioning track day / road car soon enough .

happy new year

Oh man, this is the business.

That seat & cage combo is to die for.

You're making a very hot looking car considerably more boner-inducing.

You'll need to share a bit more info on this rear floor modification, I'm expecting a 3rd upper link but can't see any photos of it.

I was thinking the same thing, Heath, but I think the photos may be out of order, if you look further up you'll see this photo of the final trimmed fixture...

 post-68293-0-38947700-1610348546.jpg

...so I'm guessing it may just be a custom centre pivot for the rear seats? (Happy to be corrected of course.)

Oh... Ahhh...

I see what you are saying, although I don't imagine there'll be a great lot of rear seat action given the taxi bar location, haha. Might need John to fill us in.

Gee there is some great builds on this forum atm

Bloody oath.
