So I'm still working on the body but have to be quiet after 8.30 cos of council rules.

I have been "touching up" some of the smaller parts after hours and at the moment it is the indicator switch.

The question is, why were there 3 extra wire holes in the plug?

Why are there extra contact holes in the switch?

I have my theory? B) but could be wrong?

Depending on what model series they could be used for the headlight dipper switch (LX) or hazard flashers (WB & Commodore).

Was thinking about the hazard lights application but not the LX dipper switch.

I have both WB (on the left) and LJ (on the right).

Not for hazzard lights and isn't the LX dipper switch a separate micro switch attached to the indicator stalk mounting point?

WB is a different plug as Dave says.
Reversing lights wiring goes up into that mech through that plug, which is why the WB plug is smaller. Probably not the reason for the extra plug spots though. Probably LX high beam as Dr Terry says.

I think it may be for a feature that wasn't offered on Aussie models.

Pontiac, Buick, Chevrolet TW8 indicator switch.

Could the extra wires on these switches be for the combined indicators in the brake lights used on some of these US models?

Perhaps GMH had export models in Holden and Torana that had combined indicators and brake lights?

The combined brake light rear blinker uses the same path is our reverse light set-up. We had exactly that arrangement in FE & early FC.

The 3 wires concerned line up with the ones on the right of Dave's picture.

I have assembled the switch and they would work as an indicator switch would. Power to the middle terminal then either right or left as the switch was operated.

I reckon it was an export feature as Dave has mentioned? Some countries require that the park light that faces the road must be illuminated at night. I'm thinking that's what this switch might do?

Looking at the LJ Torana wiring diagram and assuming GMH used the same basic wiring colour coding as GM Detroit then the red wire would be 12v + supply, the brown would be rear park lights and the black wire? a ground or earth.
