The front and rear bars on my LJ need re-chroming as they appear to be the originals as they were covered in green speckles when I got the car. Anyone had any experience with Queensland Chrome Plating. Got quoted $600 per bar (with no repairs needed). Cost doesn't worry me just can't afford to have them stuff up my original bars as they are hard to find these days? Not keen to have to send them interstate as that sounds like a recipe for a bent/dented bar upon return.

Not sure what happened there? Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with Queensland Chrome Plating (Brisbane) as they quoted me $600 per bar (without repairs).

Hi Mark, $600 is about the cost here in WA too. Very expensive to rechrome bars compared to buying new ones.

Original bars are easy to find and cheap due to most people buying repro's.

Thanks Marty. Yeh it did sound on the expensive side to me but then I've had no experience with chroming stuff since the early 80's

Rocker cover's are over $300 to do & bars are $1,000 each in melbourne now, if it's a good quality job for $600 each, you're probably doing pretty well i reckon. You can spend a crazy amount of time prepping surfaces for plating & painting.

Hi, if you want a comparison quote also try pacific plating too.

http://pacificplating.net/about/

I have had stuff done there, with good results for both my cars,
also my mate was extremely happy too with the results from pacific plating (as he was not happy with quality from wizard chrome)

I think from memory to Rechrome that left Arm was quoted at about $85... and it took about 3 goes for the acid copper to take to the shitty looking die cast surface....so for the amount of time spent by Pacific Plating, it was worth every bit.

Apparently the problem with plating pot metal is impurities in the metal cause the new plating to blister.

Herston plating had 3 goes at the old mans FC hood ornament before it came out OK.
