Hi again all, i am trying to correctly ID a manual box i have and after reading over many of the old posts still am not certain what i have...
M21 or M20??
Single groove input shaft, however as i believe thats not necessarily correct have removed inspection cover...
Only numbers i seem to find are stamped on the lower shaft "496 FE"
Is there any other numbers???
Thanks
Aussie gearbox ID

496 is the cluster gear for a normal M20 with 3.05:1 1st gear. There are 4 different boxes that could have the cluster. Basically early and late, 6cyl and V8. Early have the slinger type front oil seal, late have the rubber seal. Plus 6cyl and V8 length input shafts.
You can convert it to a close ratio M20 by changing the cluster and input shaft to XU1, or an M21 by changing the cluster, input shaft and 3rd gear to M21.

9930912 is a 6 cyl oil seal cover so 9930913 should be V8.
