Hi All. Just trying to rebuild my LX Steering Column and I note that the Owners Manual says there should be an "Accessories" position for the key, one stop anticlockwise after "Lock". However, when my key lines up with the lock position on the housing (honey pot) the ignition and starter switch actuating rack and sector are at full upwards travel. There is no more rotation available. I have attached a couple of pictures to show. I realise that I could move the ignition switch down the column a little to provide a bit of headroom. However this results in the actual lock position being out of line with the mark on the column and I don't believe that I then have enough travel in the down direction to actuate the starter. I cannot remember if the column had a functioning accessory position prior to teardown as I would never had any reason to use it.

For background, my car is a mid 77 Hatchback and the Steering Wheel lock pin is the square version. I see from threads here that some cars had a round pin and I don't know when the change point for square to round or visa versa occurred.

My question is has anyone else had problems achieving the accessory position? Were you able to fix it?

Cheers. Any help appreciated. Bill

Also, make sure you press the ignition barrel in to the honeypot (against the spring) to try and twist to the Accessories position.

It's a helpful feature. But yeah if you've engaged in the wrong tooth, then that is possibly the main problem.

Looks like the OP's pic shows he has the sector gear and the rack teeth meshed correctly.

Thanks for the input guys. I am waiting for a bit more freedom from lockdown to get a locksmith to repair the lock barrel. Then I will have another go at re-assembly. Cheers
