Great work with the sound deadening and underlay - it's a shame to cover up all that good work :)

Laurie - the inspiration for my colour choice was actually from an LJ Build on these forums, though I can't find the thread now... it was Caribbean Blue, Chamois seats/trims, black carpet/dash. I thought the same thing. the colours just go so well together.

Brett - I know right! I sat in the car for about 10 minutes admiring the underlay before I covered it up. I quite liked the underlay!

Chamois seats/doors/hoodlining with black carpet and dash is what Dad wants in his, we'll repaint in Dynasty Gold though. It's a really nice combination, especially with your blue.

Was it Macka's LC GTR? Turquoise with Sandalwood trim, I think

Ah I was searching Macca not Macka... found it!

http://www.gmh-toran...oject/?hl=macka

Yep thats the one

I though it was Chamios but you are correct it's Sandlewood. I like the sandlewood better, looks a bit cleaner but I'm committed to Chamois now - oh well!

Painted and fitted the Rad support last weekend. Made some soft mounts with some chopped up rubber door stops from bunnings!

Got the clearance between the top Radiator tank and the support looking pretty nice. Last Rad support pic shows how nice the paint finish came up off the gun. I got a new Devilbiss FLG which is one of the best bang for buck DIY spray guns going around apparently. seems a good unit so far.

I should be shooting some more colour soon so more pics to come!

Final 3 pics are just some nice ones of the car outside sitting pretty... motivation pics!

More painting over the weekend.

Rebuilt all the door hinges, Whilst I had them blown apart I paint stripped them too, bit of a painful job but necessary...

Then I removed the boot hinges from the car to paint, they were surprisingly easy to get out.

painted Bootlid, hinges and Brake Booster. Everything came up pretty good. Doors are next on the agenda. I want to get the doors painted and on the car before I run out of warm days to paint.

Over winter I'll focus on assembly of Glass, Trim, fuel system and wiring.

I can't wait to see it on the car with new chrome, no bootlock or trims / badges. should look clean.

All HZs had the squared-off bootlid, Heath, taken from the HJ/X Stato.

This one is coming together beautifully!

Terrific job. The colour on the boot lid looks superb. Never liked the stato boot.

Just running 12v hot air blowers under the dash for windshield demister to meet RWC requirements. I'm planning to fabricate the ducting under the dash.

The dash won't have any vents at all. they will all be deleted / smooth

I have been slowly shipping away and getting a few bits done here and there.

Here is a photo drop for you guys:

Boot painted and fitted

Got chrome back - wallet is now empty!

fitted rear bar and tail lights - not happy with bar position yet, I'm going to drill and tap the bar irons to move it up a bit...

painted inside rear doors

mounted brake booster / master Cylinder

I also prepped the rear doors for paint on the outside but I haven't had a decent weather day for painting yet, unfortunately I might not get one now that winter is coming.

I've got a new Headlining and B+C pillar trim so I think I'll do some interior trim whilst the weather is cold

Hi Guys,

Not much progress over the winter months unfortunately... Just going through one of those phases where life gets in the way, Family / work etc.

The very little spare time I've got I'm bloody exhausted and can't muster up the motivation to go out in the garage, another thing that becomes very apparent in winter is just how much I rely on pushing the car out into the driveway, so I can create space to work in the single garage. With it raining so frequently in Melbourne, I've been very limited.

Anyway, here's a small update:

Got the rear doors painted up in May, just before winter and it became too cold to paint.

I've hung the rear doors on the car and they look great. Very happy.

Took the Seats and Door trims to the trimmer and we decided we can't save the Cloth trimmed seats, they are in amazing condition but the few area that need repairs we wouldn't be able to match the trim, plus it's slightly faded so any repaired areas would really stand out.

We decided to just re-trim the whole lot in Long grain Chamios Vinyl. Easy to source and reasonably priced. It'll look amazing still, but the cloth would have been a unique option so it's a bit sad to change direction there.

seats will be at the trimmers for a few months as he is extremely busy.

I've reco'd the headlight buckets, springs and adjusting screws and fitted the headlights up.

done a little bit of work prepping to fit the headlining, just replacing foam strips around the roof frame / door openings etc. Nothing worth capturing in pictures.

I've got some Chamios paint matched and plastic primer to paint up some interior trim bits so as the weather warms up I'll be painting things like A pillar trims, sunvisors, armrests.

I've also got to paint the rear qtr window frame in gloss black.

some of the small detail paint work I'm happy to do just before the weather warms up because I can put them under lamps to dry.

I'm hoping to get some more momentum coming out of winter so should have some more updates soon

Hey Guys, I've been sloooowly doing a few bits a pieces on the car. Last few months have been hectic with other life things so time in the garage is limited.

Nearly got the brake lines finished off, I've done them all in stainless and just need to flare the ends at the booster.

One thing I always hated on HQ-HZ is the Drum proportioning valve mounted off the Upper control arm bracket in the engine bay... FugLY

I've sourced a WB Holden Disc/Drum Master (prop valve integrated) and done away with the old setup to tidy it up a bit. I've included a "before pic" so you can see the ugliness I've cast out from the car!

here are some progress pics

I was told the other day that Monaros had a 16:1 steering box while the lesser cars got 20:1. I notice that yoursarms has "Variable Ratio" stamped into it. Is that what all power steering setups used?

Monaro was the same as others, it was GTS that had close ratio. Was 16.7 early on and changed to 20:1 I think in HX as they had longer steering arms. This is only for manual steering boxes in HQ to HZ, but also applies to HK-HG.

Nice colour .
Can you convert these earlier fronts to RTS ? Just curious.

This one is RTS, you can tell as the top of the front shocks is centred in between the UCA bushes. HQ to late HX the shock is closer to the rear bush.

Brake calipers fully rebuilt. Brand new everything!

Make sure you use HQ or HJ (or HX to WB with power steer) steering arms or it won’t steer properly.

I had a six cyl HX van, 70000km on it. The manual steering on it was god awful after my HK. Heavy as.
