Hi guys,girls and the rest,

restoring my LH SLR, flaring it , and unsure of wheel sizes, looking at hot wires , a mate of mine is adamant I should put 15s on the rear and 14s on the front, I need some thoughts on this and if it’s common..

long way off yet but It’s bugging me as to what looks best.

all opinions welcomed.

cheers

Mine with 15 x 10's rear and 14 x 10's front. A bit wide in the front for some people but I like it. If I could find another 2 x 15's for the front thats what I would eventually like but they are like bloody hens teeth in Torana/HG pattern.

Just said it as if you do that will limit your front wheels due to caliper clearance.

Best go 15's all round imho. Better tyre choice.

If it was unflared, a 14"/15" staggered combo would make more sense.

It isn't common, but just because it isn't common doesn't mean you should do it. I'm putting staggered diameters on my hatch (not 14"/15")

Brett's car obviously looks cool as hell, but not better than if it had 15"s on the front IMO. The wheel arch on the flares is (or at least LOOKS) like a bigger shape and visually dwarfs smaller wheels.

Toranas with 13"s for example look cool if low, but flared they look like a joke (even if the wheels are wide as hell).

15"s all around is certainly a safe look.

If the car is low and the wheels have nice aggressive offsets, it'll look better than most Toranas because that's what people get wrong.

To be honest most people go looking for wheels and then get the tyres, I would be doing the opposite, look for the tyres then the wheels. Whilst I would love the matching 15 x 10s on the front of mine the tyre choices that will work on the front are very limited. It was ok back in the day with the A9X as they ran 15 inch slicks that have a very low profile. About the only tyre in 15" that I can find that would work on a 10" rim on the front is a semi slick tyre.

Bloody marvelous find! Fair price also.

August Feroces are cooool wheels and I've rarely seen them in 4-3/4" PCD. Normally 4-1/2" (5, or 4-stud).

What wheel options are there for hoppers front brakes 290mm for unflared lx?

Should be plenty but others here will have a better idea for Toranas. You’ll probably be limited to 15” steel minimum and then only certain wheels. I have 4 x original 15x6 Pontiac RallyeII rims here. Two just fit, the other two scrape on the calipers. The Chevrolet Chevelle SS replica 15x6 need self locating spacers to clear, and so do the 15x7 Simmons I have

For an old-school flared SLR - I still think a traditional set of 14 x 10's and 14 x 8's with 265/50 and 225/60 or 245/50 look spot on.

I still miss my old ones... my car needed to drop in the rear another inch or so...

I agree. The hot wires look great. I have to get 15’s to clear the brakes and mine doesn’t have flares. Probably have to go to something custom made
