My distributor cap is getting a bit corroded on the inside terminals so looking to replace it. There seems to be a few caps on the market. Naturally chasing a NOS one if I can find it. Any advise on what the LJ XU1's came out with. Mines a brown one, over 20 years old, made in Australia but no brand name that I can find. Were they this colour or black?and I assume they were Bosch?

Mark yours is the correct "bakalite" type, not spelt correctly though i think. But the brain can't remember atm. Black caps are aftermarket for a torana.

Mark      You need a Bosch GB539 -  ( brown ) original equipment item.

Its same as the one you have and common to LC / J Torana  6 cylinder engines.

Ok thanks for that. The reason I asked is that there's a black NOS Bosch currently for sale on FB.

Correct, the cap is a Bosch GB539. The original was a brown colour, the current Bosch replacement item is black.

This cap was probably the most common used on Aussie cars. Not only was it used for Holden 6-cyl from HT to HZ, Torana 6-cyl LC to UC & Commodore VB6, it was also used on Falcons & Valiants of the same era.

Mark, can you please post up a photo of what you're actually concerned about with the cap, that way we can possibly if something can be done with it ?

See photos. The aluminium terminals get that powder corrosion on them which pits them. The car is not missing or playing up just figure I should have a spare NOS one these days as parts for these things are becoming rare and the fortnightly driving I do at age 58, is likely to out last me. There's a chip off one of the bakelite terminals but the powder like corrosion and pitting is what concerns me.
