Over time there has been plenty of “skid to leave” or showing off at events.
Word has it, he wasn’t the only one who doing a burnout as they left after dropping off the formal kids. (Although Sam still had the 2 teens in his car)

If it happened on a quiet back street I wouldn't say a thing.  But during a public event on a crowded street with a stop sign at the end of it?  He is a knob jockey.

A quiet back street is still not the place for such stupidity. Some years ago we had some cockhead tearing around the block doing laps, possibly nudging 100kmh down our street.

After the third lap I was tossing up between calling the Police or throwing half a house brick at his windscreen. Fortunately for him and for me someone else had called the Police. Unfortunately by the time the Police cruised down our street Mad Max was long gone.

Trouble is today the sound of wheelspin comes 9 times out of 10 with the wet fart sound of a fully sick V6 Commodore. The ECU in the Commodore probably has more brain power than the driver and passengers combined.

Yeah, one of those brainiacs around here from time to time, seems to come out one night every week or so, single legger, but he still seems to impress himself.  The thing just bounces off the rev limiter as he drones around the streets for 5 minutes or so, then hides for another week.

A testament to the V6 really, as it gets a caning....., assuming he's not on the 4th engine?

Or the 4th car. I saw another two today on a scrap carrier. An almost complete VT wagon and a VS sedan. Looked like only wheels and tail-lights plus whatever was taken mechanically.

I  might be on my own on this one.

But when I got my license, myself and a few friends did the best thing in our lives.

We went and did an advanced driving course.

Some of us had been driving paddock bashers for years, so had half an idea.

Others had only ever driven on the road.

We did it on the remaining part of Warwick Farm circuit.

Down the bottom with the hairpin.

A skid pan was set up in the middle. A clay pan more like it.

Was the most bang for buck fun thing we had ever done.

We learned a lot.

We went on and did another course at Amaroo.

With a full circuit to play with, we had more fun than when grandma got her tits caught in the mangle.

Well worth the money.

The skills have saved me more times than I can count over the years.

Avoiding others mistakes a few times.

Cheers

Rob

Not everyone has a skid pan at their disposal. I know they run defensive driving courses up this way, but its just in small a carpark at the local showground.

Im sure that Ive gained more car control skills paddock bashing on bush tracks, farms and isolated roads than I would have dordilling around a small carpark in someone elses FWD hatchback.

I'd advocate heavily for everyone to send their kids to do the motorcycle L plate course (in NSW at least). I learnt a lot from it, makes you a lot more aware of what is around you, gets your spidy senses working with what other drivers are actually doing. Not saying to necessarily let them then get their P plates, but just the L plate course.

I have to agree with you Rob, I have done a few defensive driving courses as part of my work as well as some skid pan fun days. Definitely money well spent.

I did one of those courses, but the instructor got all defensive so I left.

Cant say that I have ever done a burnout in my life, maybe it was because I am always concerned about the damage to my pride and joys, oh and prob because most had crappy banjo diffs :)

Id much rather do a few fast laps around Barbagallo in the commodore to be honest.

A lot of us older guys know there's a time a place to let it rip ,..I'm guilty as i've done plenty of burnouts in my time and still do in the the right place at the right time but more so at the dragstrip these days...A 7second car is not a street car BUT only a race car with number plates...I understand and get it the thrill of driving it on the street is more than enough pose value when you can say its a 7second car...but what's more frightening for me is being in Graham Cowin's pit crew in the very early 80's and seeing a Australian record at the time watching Graham's Funny car run a 6.23 at over 200mph plus...that's a race car...some of these so called street cars running twin turbo LS engines are making well over 1500 horsepower on the street is totally ridiculous...on the dragstrip there setup with a good sticky compound tyre on the street anything can happen cause of the road surfaces as has happen in this event...I'm always reminded of a sticker i saw back in 1973 =74 on a older gents GT Shaker falcon...it said i quote ''DON'T BAN HIGH PERFORMANCE CARS BAN LOW PERFORMANCE DRIVERS''...and i believe it so much...

I'm certainly no angel when it comes to putting Bridgestone on bitumen , but i'm old enough to know that there is a time & place .

In this day and age you have to assume that everyone has a camera . Look at the consequences when someone posts the video to anti-social media ! Think about that next time you are leaving a car show .

This situation is an isolated incident & shouldn't be used as a bargaining chip to tarnish other enthusiasts .

I always thought the B in LGBTIQA etc was for Bisexual but I guess it could also stand for burnout

A mate of mine had to do one when he started his job as a postie.

The instructor looked at the names on the list and asked my mate if he was "the" so and so.

He told him yep he was.

The instructor said that my mate should have been up the front not him.

Apparently to Australia Post, a World Championship Speedway Solo title didnt qualify him to ride their bikes.

But given that, he said he learned a couple of things from the course.

There are things that you do instinctively that you just dont realise until they are pointed out to you.

Cheers

Rob

I actually heard that story when I did my bike courses, Casey Stoner was the so and so in that one.

The thing that you learn riding a bike is getting an instinct for what other drivers are going to do, a lot of which is you can see their eyes at intersections, and know if they have seen you. But also being far more aware of what is around you, and it translates back into the car as well.

When I had my crash just over 3 years ago, I was looking at the drivers eyes.

He was looking directly at me.

But he didnt see me.

I was trying to work out what happened in the days after the crash.

Just to see whether my pain was corresponding to what had happened.

When I talked him a few days later, he said he didnt see me.

The first recognition of what was going on was the bike hitting the deck.

I worked it out eventually.

I kicked myself in the middle of the back.

Someone said that people need to start playing a car game with their kids of spot the bike.

That might help.

It will take 50 years or so, but it would be great if it worked.

Cheers

Rob

So you rev the engine up to say about 6000 rpm then just drop the clutch

simple really Col
