Hi there, I’m running a Salisbury (large) with 3.08 ratio matched to a t5. Great for highway but not the best for down low in the rev range, especially with a fairly Lopey cam. It might have some lash but it really is a clutch in exercise to be smooth in traffic at low rpm as I slow down (to stop it being very jerky). Am thinking 355’s or more would suit the 5speed better ...and give it a little more poke in 3/4/5 at lower Kph. What is easiest route - can this diff take a 3.55 aftermarket centre? Or do I need to look at a different option entirely?

Tons of commercial vehicles running 3.55 Salisbury's so finding a gear set should be easy. Just depends what kind of centre/axles you have/want.

If you tell me your exact rear tyre size and the overdrive ratio of the T5 (0.68:1 maybe?) I can run some speed vs. RPM numbers for you?

3.55 gears or centre will fit.

Not in a Salisbury unless you can find one of the few made for LH-LX homologation when Salisbury was introduced late in LX.

That’s the small Salisbury gaz. I thought some one tonners might have had the 39/10 crown wheel to pinion set up in Salisbury as they did in banjo.

Tonners were standard with 3.55, got 3.36 with V8 model if A/C optioned or an economy axle optioned. 4.44 came out into HJ for 6cyl manual (especially 4spd). 5.0L (auto only) got 3.36. That’s about it, basically only 3.36, 3.55 or 4.44.

Small Salisbury are just disguised banjo. Lots of Gemini too with 3.9 IIRC too.

Thanks for all the advice guys, really appreciate it. Do you recommend I source some that pop up on eBay every so often or best to arrange through an actual diff builder directly who may have stock on hand or could source? And if so can you recommend anyone in Sydney ?

If your hemisphere or the donor is unserviceable worst case is you might have invest in one of these:

Does the 3.55 gear set fit on the 3.08 Hemisphere?

I had a feeling the 2.78 and 3.08 shared a Hemisphere, 3.36, 3.55 and 4.44 shared a Hemisphere, and not sure where the 2.6 fits in with things.

2.6 and 2.78 share the same hemisphere. 3.08 to 4.44 use the other one. It is banjo and small salisbury where 2.78 and 3.08 use the same hemisphere.
