Hi All,

Hoping someone can help and let me know what diameter the M21 shifter stick/shaft - the chrome bit that the shifter knob screws to - and the actual thread size for the shifter knob.

I'm looking to make a shifter for my Torana and want the stick coming through the console to look standard with a standard 4 speed shifter knob so would like to know the size.

Don't want to bu a complete shifter for a short part of the stick with the threads on it for the shifter knob to screw to - unless someone has one they would part with cheaply.

Thanks all in advance.

George

How are you going to attack the stick to the shifter?

My memory says that a Falcon AU / BA wheel nut screws on where the knob normally goes?
That is 1/2 inch UNF from memory?
That doesn't sound correct? as I thought it was a lot coarser than that.
I recently fabricated an extended "knob" for a track car and used a Falcon wheel nut in the process. Have the other nuts from the packet at home, can clarify later if you like.

Hi Yel327,

I'm planning to put a toploader into my Torana so will  use the bottom half of the toploader stick to connect to the actual shift mechanism.

I'll need to weld the Torana sized stick with the right thread to the toploader stick and hopefully get it to come out of the factory floor hole and also fit my console.

Hi RallyRed,

If you could clarify that would be great.

I really don't want to have to buy a complete M21 shifter to cut the stick off it to weld to my toploader stick. I'm hoping if I can get the right diameter of the stick, I'll cut the stick to the size I need and cut the right threads to take a Torana gear knob.

A bit of mucking around but happy to do it if I know what size to start with.

Ah, makes more sense now! You might pick up a flogged out one at a swap meet you can use the stick off. Like the attached link but without the 1 in front of the price.

I probably had what you were looking for too until recently. My red GTS327 had a toploader and 9” in it, had an original Ford shifter with a HK-HG Saginaw stick welded to it. I turfed the toploader years ago but only recently binned the shifter, I did it when we took the car up to my mate’s place just over a year ago. I didn’t think anyone would want it!

As per earlier, and Bazza's post above.
1/2" x 20 tpi = UNF
