My boss referred to my Torana as a Cortina a few times. Obviously he has no taste or interest in cars.

They do have similar history though, just different manufacturers. Both started out as Pommy 4cyl cars. Both won Bathurst multiple times under Harry Firth's influence, in fact the Corina's second "win" was alongside the Torana DNA's first class win where the HA Viva dominated Class A. Cortinas also won Bathurst 3 years in a row (63, 64, 65), something neither Monaro, Torana or Falcon managed prior to V8 Supercar- only Commodore (82, 83, 84). The only major historical difference really is although Ford planned a V8 Cortina to take on the V8 Toranas they canned the project.

Maybe he’s just older? Cortinas were the gun thing in the 60’s. My Dad always talked about them being the thing to have before Ford built V8 Falcons and GMH fitted the 186S to the Holden.

Do you know how much your cars are worth?  or  "They're worth a lot of money now why keep them?"

Not sure if it's a question or making a statement.

Is that why he's your ex boss? Atleast a Gemini is a Holden.

Nah, he is a pretty good bloke and I had a pretty good job there. Just a few wrong decisions and other factors outside of our control and the business went belly up.

It's ok, I was joking in my response but sarcasm is hard to convey in text.

I'm sick of hearing the same old rhetoric mostly from non car guys that our cars are only of interest and value to the older generation and that in 10 or 20 years the following generations will have no interest and their prices will plummet. Heard it again yesterday.

I think the genuine UX1, A9X etc maybe will but the rest I do not see them holding huge dollars in 10-20yrs time. The kids of today are not interested in them, like them but wouldn’t pay the dollars. You be luck if you can buy fuel for them in 20-30 time. Too many good cars out there to be worrying about these buckets of rust.

Col I cant remember how many times I have heard that we wont have fuel in the next 'x' amount of years.

Same as coal. And oil.

I started working in coal in 1980.

New reports back then said we would runout of coal within 20 years.

The mine I worked at is still running, and bought a lease of a neighbouring company.

So far we have mined less than 5% of the available area of reserves.

And a lot of that area has more than 1 seam of viable coal to extract.

Fuel will outlast you, and your grandchildren.

It, like coal fired power generation are things that there is no real viable alternative for all of its uses.

And there is too much money involved in it.

Before we joined in with the OPEC and its parity pricing, we were more than 95% self sufficient.

The OPEC move just meant it wasnt economical for a lot of our oil production to continue.

One day it, and more of our coal reserves will become more economic to extract.

Cheers

Rob

In 20 years time you’d just drop something like this in. By then we’ll have far superior batteries to the heavy, expensive, pollutive to create stuff we have now. And by then we should have the technology and infrastructure to charge them. By then it’ll probably come with a SBC shaped engine cover and external speakers that make V8 noises!

Some of the younger generation still appreciate older cars, my son just bought his first car -

I really don’t see the point at all of wanting to converting any old car to batteries when you buy new off showroom floor new.

Same reason people put LS engines in older cars.

Mob in NZ have made an LC or LJ electric.

It performs well at the drags.

The battery pack for the Prius is around 15k.

There was a greenie on Facebook sprouting all sorts of stuff and the fact she had a Prius.

Asked her if she had replaced the battery yet.

Said she had and it cost a couple of hundred.

I told her that was the auxilliary battery for the generator.

Asked her if she knew about the other big battery.

She obviously didnt.

She blocked me after that.

Hated being made to look stupid I guess.

Cheers

Rob

That sounds like a vegan who thinks that they're saving the planet and themselves but looks at everything with a blindfold on.
