Hi all,
Does the 304 block have 304 on the side as part of the casting? I have a block number that starts with VU and it seems, from information online, that it’s 304 or a 308 depending on how you read the chart.

No. They have 5.0 or they are blank once Holden stated producing both 304 and 350ci versions of the engine.
They have HP on the early HT 308’s (mainly Brougham) which was replaced gradually with 308 later in 1969. Remained as 308 until the end of VL. In the 80’s 308 and later 304 got an extra 308 on the other side too.

Last blocks had like star/asterix looking thing on side...very last of them vs series 3 utes & vt series 1
