I need to send 4 x wheels (with tyres) from Vic to SA. Questions to anyone who has done this recently:

1. What's the best way to wrap them?

2. Should I wrap individually, or pair them up (buyer has suggested this method) - face to face with cardboard and cloth in between them. Might be too heavy and awkward though?

3. Can anyone suggest a reliable (and budget friendly) courier company?

Thanks.

I remember you putting me on to E-Go a while ago Gene - I will certainly get a quote through them. A skid would require a forklift at each end though? Trying to avoid that.

I had my Wheel Vintiques rims and red band tyres shipped from Vic to NSW. They just put round thick cardboard on the face and taped it well to the wheel/tyre. Easy. Maybe ask those guys who they use? The whole lot turned up in a neat pile in front of my roller door.

Sendle have been pretty good. Sent a pair of rims Adelaide Sydney $30.95 door to door. Having tyres on you would have to wrap individually and send as four parcels so $124 total.

I sent a set of rims from Bunbury to Darwin, and the cheapest quote I got was from Australia Post. If they don't have tyres fitted, then head to any shop that sells new ones and pickup a set of the plastic rings that fit around the lip. They come with all new sets and only get thrown out.

Have used ego plenty of times. No problems.

I normally select "depot to depot" , saves a fair bit. Assumes the sender is happy to drop off at the depot at their end. Ego provides all the address labels etc as part of the price.

I recently purchased 4 x wheels of a gent. He had received them via ego, no wrapping at all, just had the ego labels stuck to the rims.

Agree that pairing them up may make it a little heavy, however if going depot to depot, would prob. be machine lifted at each end anyway.

Yep I passed at the time. Maybe if it was a capital city it may have been cheaper.

Having sent and received lots of big items over the years including wheels, tyres, blocks and gearboxes I found it easiest to get the buyer to organise their own freight arrangements with pickup from my address unless it is very close by for me to do a drop off for a light item.

Australia post are very good for bare rims.

I've sent multiple sets of Simmons to Sydney & Melbourne  through E-go. Depot to depot the dearest was $120 .

I tried to send 2 rims through Australia Post . I even put them into boxes that I got surplus from a tyre store . Unfortunately 1 of the boxes was 1" larger than the other .

It was $76 for the smaller box & $120 for the other . I've noticed that if you send a heavy item , they say cost is determined by weight . But if you send a light item ......... suddenly cost is determined by size . Go figure !

I had a set of rims(sent in individual wheel boxes) sent from South Australia to the Gold Coast only last month with 'www.truckit.net' and it only cost $92 door to door and that included insurance.

I ended up using E-Go. 4 individual wheels with tyres - wrapped separately. 25kg each, so 100kg total. Depot to depot from Bayswater in VIC to Greenfields in SA was $94. Took about 3 to 4 business days and the buyer was rapt. Definitely another thumbs up for this mob.
