Hi all, well it’s one step forward and two back , I received my carburettor back from the reconditioning place and thought it would be ready to bolt on , I soon realised it is missing the dash pot and associated bracket to hold it on and by the looks could also be missing some bushes . Anyone know where I could find the missing bits? Thanks Paul.

This is how it should be.

I’ve got half a dozen here, mostly off 253 and 302. Will drag them out in the morning if I remember.

Hi Paul, for that price he should have given you a complete Carbie.

I could unpack mine and take pics if required.

As above, every 253/4.2 from the first engines through to the end of HZ and VB had an auto choke WW Stromberg. Except for the Hurricane, or the few that had an Email 2BBL carb.
Agree Gene, we all chucked them and the manifolds they were on in the alloy scrap pile.

Hi Paul, my cards all seem to have somewhat different choke set up. As stated they are generally off v8 engines. Some photos in any case.
Cheers

Thanks for the pics Clay , it all helps .
I think the early 2 barrel strombergs may have had the metal throttle damper dash pot and bracket which is what I’m missing.
The HR HK 186s could have had the same set up but I’m not sure on that.

And probably missing the throttle damper and bracket , because everyone got rid of them in favour of the manual set up!😢

The throttle damper (dashpot) that your carby is missing is not part of the auto choke system.

Yes. The diaphragm pictured is to pull the choke off if you nailed it while still cold.

The throttle damper is an anti-stall device. It is there to soften the closure of the throttle valves in the case of the throttle being allowed to snap shut.

A quick check of the LH Torana cattledog shows no mention of the throttle damper assy on manual or auto 4.2litre engines.

Perhaps this was only req'd on the high output big banger 6cyl  'S' engines. ^_^
