I'm just chasing confirmation on what fasteners were used to secure the front of the stone tray to the body. A friend mentioned that a "U" nut was fitted to the stone tray and then a bolt (probably about a 5/16 at a guess) goes through the bodywork and into the "U" nut, is this correct?

I had a look through the parts catalogue but couldn't find anything, that doesn't mean that it's not there but I couldn't find the stone tray in the catalogue at all.

Thanks
James

Thanks Bazza, great work.
Now to find a supplier, that shouldn't be too hard though.

That makes it easy but an expensive way to get the bits. For $10 from my link above and a couple more dollars at the local fasteners shop you'd have yourself a kit.

What is the body screw used for? I had to go to the USA to source the body screws used to hold the rear of the heat shield above a HK GTS muffler. They are a US GM part number. Little different to that one in the image but same type of thing.

Interesting, that Barn Find pic......

I had a funny feeling that the 2 screws each side that hold the splash tray to the underside of the chassis rails, were more of a self tapper type screw?, ( as per Bazza's pic ) due to the rail not being thick enough to get a real thread cut in it?

( I always call it a stone tray too, but have since learnt that the stone tray is actually the panel that runs parallel to the bumper)

Regardless, I just fit Nutserts in there now anyway, get a good secure fitting, and rivet counters cannot tell as they are hidden by the return flange of the tray anyway.

For the rivet counters, the  'J' nut bolts offered by Barn Find Spares are not exactly the same as the originals.
