I would have thought same as the 161S minus the rocker cover and air cleaner transfers.

I would say they would have used the same outlets and crossed over the rocker cover same as the 161S , at a guess.

The 173 GTR heater hoses didn't cross over the rocker cover. One of the reasons I prefer that model.

So where do the hoses from the inlet manifold go and heater ? All on the right hand side of the thermostat housing?

As far as I know yes, it's as the 72 LJ set-up to the thermostat housing.

Same as LJ 202 GTR I believe, as stated earlier. Definitely the tidiest setup but means that when the heater lever is in the cool position there is no flow through the manifold. HD 179X2 also piped this way I reckon, although from the other side of the thermo housing and water pump. I suppose the manifold only needs the flow to warm up quicker in cold conditions, so the heater would be on. I have the same setup in my 179 headed FB ute. Reassuring to know they stuck with this setup.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what setting you have the heater lever position in. The water always flows the same, they're no taps to divert water flow. Only flaps to divert air.

Hopefully someone can confirm if I'm talking shite.

Correct Marty, there are no taps to open or close the water flow through the heater core on an LC/LJ. Every time the engine heats up the heater core heats up.

Thanks for setting me straight. I’m used to the earlier cars where the heater box and core are inside the cabin and probably therefore need to be isolated when not required. It is a tidy setup in any case.

Yes, the above is true.

Back in the day when we all had LC/LJs as daily drivers, a leaking interior Heater Assembly was not influenced by where the

heater controls were set.  i.e. wet carpet until you fixed it.

Same in the earlier models. The tap doesn't isolate pressure, just flow.

HD X2 was completely different, firstly there were no hoses connected to the passengers side of the thermostat housing & the heater had a valve.

With water heated inlet manifolds it is very important to have good flow thru them all of the time, not just in cold weather.
