10x too much for me. I’d wreck it out and cut it up. Like every other Commodore I’ve ever owned! Here it is

Agree. It’s about as appealing to me as a Camira. But if that was your cup of tea it’s a decent price and a good colour.

haha.. Camira, that is exactly what I think of all VL's.  Worst shape commodore ever. (excluding those odd new shaped things after the VF).

I was able to buy a VL Calais V8 wagon once. It turned up at the local wreckers. Cheap too. Supposedly rare, but at the time I didn’t need a V8 and Trimatic donor. It got wrecked I think, was too good a car to wreck but it was just a wreckable commodity back then, like any VL, VN etc.

Are you suggesting that the VL is a superior model to the VN?

I can’t see how a standard base VL is any prettier than a standard VN. Both are butt ugly to me. Only the Calais or the red GroupA versions look OK in both, although the grey or the rare white VN SS look pretty good compared to the other VN.

Only taste Gene. I think VN are ugly too, but VL are no better in my eyes, both are awful, just belted with different ends of the ugly stick. VL to me is the worst looking of that evolution. VN started bad and didn’t really get any better before the end of that run. Probably only the VT/VX sedan and V2/VZ coupe look any good, although VY and VZ ute and wagon are good just the back of the sedans is unpleasant. We can’t all like the same thing though!

Doesn’t have to be pretty to be cool. Look at an EJ, or a HX GTS.

Pretty cool to see that V12 in a VL, it’s a very compact engine, look how narrow it is compared to the TH400. In reality though it’s only a 5.0L engine. You’d probably get just as much hang for buck fitting an LSA. Probably less bragging rights though!

Speaking of VL's, there are two race cars coming up at Lloyds, with one of them being an original Group A. Now I believe that there was a Brock built one (with signature on decals) and others that were built by Holden. I am just wondering out loud because the VIN plates on the two cars for sale are different.

according to the HDT / Brock production number publication (Chris Sewell), the 1st tag J116200 is listed as a VL SS Group A #099 (std VL Group A, not Plus pack), 2nd tag J155601 is not listed

The first (red) plate indicates that it has the Group A motor (W code) & is an Exec level car, on which Group As were based.

The VIN plate for the second car indicates that it is a Berlina with a regular 304 V8.

Also 1/88 is the wrong time frame for an HDT model.
