Hey all,
I have been doing some tidy up on my LC while I have the insides stripped. Crash Pad was in much need of love. A bit of JB Weld, elbow grease and vinyl paint and it has come up ok imo.

Was reading some info on restoring vinyl.

Apparently paraffin oil is really good at softening the vinyl back to as new suppleness.

Ive got a dash for a project that is good but brittle.

Waiting for the order to come by mail to give it a try.

Cheers

Rob

Yep that’s a very good job. You’d want to do the repair before you use the paraffin oil wouldn’t you? I’m thinking it would interfere with the adhesion process. The spray colours are actually a dye rather than paint. They are very effective for the money. VHT used to be good but no longer on the market. Getting a colour match can be tricky and I tried two aerosol products, one too light the other too bright. In the end I got my seat vinyl colour matched and sprayed my original door trims using cheap gravity gun. If anyone needs something dyed blue I have three different shades now.

Duloicolor.Colours don't seem too accurate in colour chart. Medium Beige and Desert Sand (I used for door cards) are very close to the colour of the can lid

VHT also have a few colours including Buckskin Tan.      It may be worth a look. Repco had the best range of colours in my local area  Good luck with it Gene

Rob,

I got a quote to recover and it was over $600 plus postage to VIC.
A bit out of the budget so I thought, nothing to lose. The cracked bits were not too brittle. I used a heat gun and the butt of a screw driver handle to shape the edges back in and then a Stanley knife to trim the excess protrusions. I made a few applications with JB Weld, trimming excess after each cure (The resin rises as it sets). Between Stanley knife and sand paper I got it pretty good. Not perfect but close.

Cracker of a job Pedro!

Well done, I'm all for fixing as much stuff on these cars as you can. Best way to learn and be proud of YOUR build.

I paid the $600 to Dash Dr and felt it was worth every cent due to it being a big repair and full vinyl wrap.

Cheers Marty! Appreciated.

Dashboard Dr reviews and you tube show excellent results. If I stuffed up, I would have sent to them for vinyl wrap. I hope it lasts in the QLD sun, but I have a dash mat. I just want to display my work though LOL.

I am very happy with results.

Cheers Daniel,
Worth the effort. The hardest part is matching the vinyl dye. You could probably get a match mix but it would cost a bit more I would expect.

Cracking when being pushed on with a finger is a sign of being brittle.

Thats where the paraffin treatment can save further damage by making the vinyl soft again.

Cheers

Rob
