Hi,
Rookie question.
Anyone have experience with the above?
My2016 SS ute has an intermitent ( months apart) issue with dropping onto 7 cyl.
Check engine light comes on, as does "Check ESP" light.
Car has a new battery.
Often goes away after a few days.
So, a process of elimination, has me undestanding there is a dicky injector on the rear driver's side cyl.
I have since become aware that 2016/7 LS3s are well known for this injector issue.
Holden apparently fixes them under warranty and even regularly outside warranty.
My preference is just to get a new injector and save myself the drama of leaving it at the dealers ( it's out of warranty) while they consider their position, only to tell me they "cant fault it" , and " there are no stored codes mate, must have been bad fuel...etc etc"
Thus..
To remove an injector, I imagine you need to lift the fuel rail?, how do you disconnect the fuel rail itself ftom the injector?.
I am imagining buying genuine spare ( Bosch?) injector.

You don't have to completely remove the fuel rail to replace the injectors on these engines.

 

Just unplug the electrical connector remove the retaining clip & undo the bolts which hold the rail down. Lift the rail slightly & remove the injector(s).

 

For whatever reason the LS3 injectors have a high failure rate early in life, we've sold 100s of them.

Just on 40,000 Gene.
I did waste 20m this morn. going back to Holden, where purchased, and Serviced.
They said as it's 15m out of Warranty, I had no show of a freeby.
I asked about goodwill?..nuh.
Makes sense really, what dead company needs to worry about goodwill?.
Anyway..$77 for the part. 1 hour for the job in the shed. No dramas.

Thanks good Dr.
I can understand that now, however, as an amature, I was worried about "tweaking" the other side O rings if I didn't pull it up squarley.
It's a shame they dont make them anymore , in Hdens.. It looks like they( GM) had put some thought into maintainability..i.e easy to do.

Good to know mine has just clicked over 48000 km and so far no probs with injectors

Yeah i had to take mine back for warranty work at 35000 km for a lower bent pulley 

they tried the old you been thrashing it BS then i told them its the missus car 

they changed it under protest mine is out of warranty now not a bad thing don’t have to deal with imbeciles at dealerships  anymore

More Kia signs than you can jump over, a little Holden Service arrow at the front gate. Inside the showroom, at the Setvice desk, more Kia signs...NO, NIL, not even a postage stamp saying " Holden Service".
You feel like you shouldn't be there.
Meanwhile out the back there are plenty of Colorados, SV6 and SS type cars, 3 x SS HWP units, all being serviced by guys in Holden uniforms.
i.e. we will take your money, but please just come and go quietly, we dont want to upset our Loyal Kia owners.

One assumes if you use the ACDelco new injector, there is no need to get into the software and do some sort of 0 - 100% span type thing, to let the computer know it is now controlling a new/ different part?

Yes agree ,my ute will be my last new Holden but the way the prices are i was thinking of selling it 

but i prob will regret it so for now it stays

Shouldn't matter whatever brand injector. Just plug & play. May need a scan tool to clear any fault codes though.

The 'genuine' injectors are made by Bosch. AFAIK there is no other direct fit replacement.

Yes, most likely.

 

AC Delco don't manufacture much stuff themselves, most of their parts are from various OEM contract suppliers. The injectors themselves will be clearly branded Bosch.

Thanks mate, I'm also glad that it wasn't one of the older AFM model engines as old mate at the parts desk suggested those injectors were worth a lot more $.

I think he might be a little confused.

 

There are only 2 part numbers which cover all 6.0 & 6.2 V8s from late VZ to VF & they are similarly priced. This includes L76, L77 (with & without AFM), L98 & LS3. The exceptions are some HSV versions.

OK,  just for info of others who may do this. 

I asked about purchasing some spare O rings, in case I stuffed any doing the job.  Old mate advised they were available, but were worth more than the actual injectors. However, when I opened the injector box at home, it appears each injector comes with 4 times as many O rings and clips than what it needs, thus no need to buy any spares.

Future reference, a little mechanics trick.
If you suspect a spark plug, ht lead, coil or injector, if the car is throwing miss fire codes, swap the plug, coil or injector with a different cylinder, can do all at once(different cylinder for each), note what went where, go for a drive, see if the code/missfire changes cylinder. This can narrow things down a bit quicker.

Just a follow up for other's info.
2 other injectors have started to intermittantly play up ( same Check Engine light, Service ESP, rough idle symptoms.
Today I replaced the remaining 7 injectors.
Very easy job.
Thus, looks like if it happens to you...just replace them all, and be done with it.
