It’s bad enough with “XU1’s R US” now.

A bit like the reproduction XU-1 heads, cast any date code you like in them.

Date codes have been changed on 308's before, and changing engine numbers seems to be par for the course in a lot of GTR / XU1 / L34 / A9X restorations. The worse part is that they are getting pretty good at it.  I don't enjoy being a hater, but I hate these low life pieces of dirt.

I wasn’t even referring to date codes. That is a fool’s errand. I was talking about the restamping of the original engine assembly code, the partial VIN and the redo of the broach marks.

Obviously the police over there care about it as much as the police over here.

What is the price premium for a car factory fitted with the L34 350HP manual verses a 325HP auto?

No idea. But people here get all excited about 161 and 173 engines and even 253’s. There was that restamped 173 GTR thread. So I guess there must be interest in 396/402 BBC powered stuff too despite them being the lower power versions of the range. The obvious intent being to make the engine “match” the car, remember with these there was no engine “number” - they stamped the PSN (they call partial VIN) of the car in front of the engine plant stamping.

There seems be much more "freedom' with rego rules & the like in many US states. So re-stamping engine & chassis numbers isn't the heinous crime over there that it is here in Australia.

Have a look at some of the US TV shows where they hotrod just about anything & take it for a drive with no rego plates, doing burn-outs & not caring about any rules.

By comparison we live in a "police state".

Having said that, I'm not condoning re-stamping for resale.

Sounds fair. Let the market decide.

Just thread trolling, but is there a repro XU1 head?

Apologies if my head has been under a rock, never noticed much converse about the quote.
