Yeah surely there would be CAMS docs somewhere for this vehicle?

So QT671366 is 1 of the 262 1975 racing engines?

How when QT671366 was fitted to a HJ Prem wagon in November 1975.

Are they referring to the 263 L34's built in 1974?

Those two letters look like they were written by a well educated Nigerian scammer.

Yeah surely there would be CAMS docs somewhere for this vehicle?

The CAMS would have issued a log book for the Team Brock L34.

The whole story smells of bullshit.

Not sure if the history / age of the  Cams Logbook would reflect a change in what they record?, but my ( originally issued in  1999) version, only states Chassis/Body number, Year of manufacture, and swept volume. No place to record engine number.

I guess that would make sense, as in the thick of it ( think Bathurst Friday/Sat  versus Sunday ) there would probably be an engine change and thus the logbook would be wrong either way?

I don’t think it really matters. The engine might be an L34 or F5000 block, but as the number isn’t a GMH stamped one how do you prove anything about it? I could grab a 1974 or 75 block out of my shed, deck it and stamp the same number and say the same thing.

When you watch the posted video footage at 2:36 you can also see remnants of the original 7 to the right of the restamped 7.

This will be the original QT671366 numbered engine for sure.

Forensic examination and testing will prove the original engine number.

2614 lbs is pretty light for the race car even being dry? good to see it came with the HZ engine.

From that story on the car I linked earlier...

With the focus on the BMW and the international race program the Torana went into the corner of the team’s workshop and re-emerged later in the year with backing from Holden dealer Bill Patterson.

Very little had been done to the car with no further racing miles put on the L34, but Brock jumped back aboard in September and went on to win the Hang Ten 400 at Sandown, his second straight win in the Melbourne enduro classic.

He and Phil paired up for Bathurst and finished third, though it was another case of ‘what could have been’ as Brock recounted in the 1980 race program.

So if that article rings true, very little was done to the car between purchasing it with the HZ16644R engine number in March 1976 and the Hardie-Ferodo 1000 in October 1976.

It's not looking good that a HJ Premier engine would've been dropped in before the big race??

Especially since those logbooks were dated 1979 and it still had the L34 engine in it.

Unless it was a re-stamp that has been decked and re-stamped with the same number again!

In that case yes it may be more difficult.

The reason I say that is the feint 1 looks like the one you can see, and both different to an original 1. But it is only a blurry still from a video, so not conclusive.

To me the feint 1 looks slightly different to the restamped 1 and the feint 7 I think I can see is vastly different to the restamped 7

It does look slightly different but original 1's have a distinctive curve to the little top bit. It may just be it has been machined down so the curve doesn't look as exaggerated, but it doesn't look anywhere near as curved as an original.

At the end of the day my personal opinion is the bloke is full of it.

What has been shown of both of those letters he has presented as proof, neither letter states the engine number of the Team Brock L34 that he claims to own and both letters do not address him by name.

'To whom it may concern'

'Dear Sir/Madam'

What a joke.

Who is 'Murray' that wrote the HRT letter?

Murry.?.no A.
What has HRT got to do win it?
What the hell is the " main branch"?

It's a good yarn from a couple of knock about blokes I reckon.
