HZ16644R was advertised for sale in January 1988. The car was stolen from the Lithgow RSL not long after. I believe the engine was still in it.
The article you were reading Andrew, has many mistakes in it. It never had a 350 Chev.

Dave. There are seven R numbers. Only two are confirmed to be stamped into blocks, but I am on the trail of a third.
Not all of them have a second (same) number recorded, but we are missing 24 of them.

Cool, thanks Laurie. Keep digging.

Could be another clue here too. It looks like Brock rego'd the car in W.A.

Yep, because I'm sure Peter Brock needed extra "driving practice"...
So are there any additional details to be found from a WA registration?
Actually, it doesn't specifically say it was WA rego, it may have been Victorian rego, or South Oz for that matter? How far did he drive to get to the track?

Are the 7 you have the ones that have been found Laurie? Of are the 7 from the microfiched report out of the VML?

So how could you do a past rego check on chassis # ALH439565M?

The VIN on that car was 8D69ZD J439565H
They only made sixty one thousand (and change) LH's all told.
I don't have the chassis number recorded for that car but I'd guess it should have been in the high thirteen thousands.

Are you sure about that Andrew?
I thought the PSN matched the Body number not the chassis number.

Correct. From the CAMS documents posted by Peter earlier, the vehicle was identified by the body number...
Found this info on FB which also includes pics of the car when converted back to a road trim. Cams Log book pictures below when it was raced by Citizen Watches:

Ok, it was Brads post where he lists the number as a chassis number that threw me.

If Vasko Talevski can be found he would have first hand info of the vehicle as he lived down Wollongong NSW:

Can you do a historical rego search in NSW to determine the chassis number?
Just tried all the usual sources but "LMB772" comes up as non-existent. And I can't seem to find anywhere to check an engine number by itself.
EDIT: According to Wikipedia, that number plate should have been issued in 1981, do we know when the L34 was supposed to have been stolen?
Ahhhh is this the QT engine going in? Lolz!
*IF* it was, and the car was then stolen from Lithgow, wouldn't that mean QT671366 should also come up as a stolen engine?

This fella?
Must be as the L34 pictures listed the car as being in Warrawong (suburb of Wollongong) and he went to Warrawong High School.
