Hi All,

I have just finished putting a 9 inch in the back of my LH.

I have kept the stock drum brakes, and after putting them back together feel that the self adjusters just dont seem to sit right.

They are fairly loose and dont really sit near the adjuster wheel like I remember they used to.

It could just be because the shoes are not adjusted out at all.

I suppose I am just after some reassurance that they will be fine!

Can anybody help?

Cheers

Dave

The only thing that stands out to me is the adjuster lever return spring on your LH appears to be taller than the spring on my LJ. I am assuming yours are the std 9" drums which means they are basically the same as LJ.

Have you installed the little pivot bobbins that go through the adjuster into the shoe hole that the locating rod goes through. Sits under the retaining spring clip and keeps the adjuster plate axis located. Just a thought. Small part easily misplaced, but critical.

Hi guys,

The springs were new from a rares kit, so that may have something to do with it!

I will change them back - good thing I didnt throw them away!

Also, the little sleeves/spacers are back in there, I made sure of that!

See how I go, thanks.

So I changed the springs to the original which are about 2mm shorter than the rares spring. It brought it down a bit however now they are really sloppy.

I read something somewhere about having to change the adjusting link for oversized shoes - I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

Anyone know where to get the different length adjusting links?

That’s mine. I did have source a different length link. I think the lengths are colour coded?

The LJ parts cat lists 4 different length adjuster links to be used as a selective fit. Unfortunately it doesn't state the measurement for each part number.

I’ve heard quite a few say to ditch the self adjusters in any case. Rear shoes don’t do much work and rarely need adjusting on disc front setups in my experience. Some say they over adjust the brakes, leading to dragging brakes and premature wear.
