Hi all ,can anyone confirm if the accelerator pedal sits under the carpet or screwed down on top? I've searched through past posts and haven't really found an answer . Thanks Paul.

Hi Paul, all the LC Toranas I have owned have had the pedal screwed to the floor and the carpet slotted to fit over them. Original carpets may have had stitched lacing around the slot but totally unsure about this. What does everyone else think? A very long time since I took one apart. I do remember that that  the screws were always rusted and hard to get out due to corrosion even on cars only 15 years old.

Hi

Here is a pic of an LC XU-1 still fitted with its original carpet. The pedal appears to be under the carpet at the forward end of the heel pad.

Cheers

I'm not so sure about this.

I seem to remember these things when they were new & the accelerator was held down by 2 screws which went thru the carpet. The whole accelerator was above the carpet.

I guess untouched original cars are now impossible to find.

Any brochure shots around maybe ?

I still have the original carpet for a 70 Brisbane GTR - now removed.

There is a rectangular cutout in the driver side rubber/plastic “protector” same size as the accelerator base.

I can check the carpet to see if it also has the same cutout.... or only screw holes.

I’m sure there are others with original cars, that may chime in soon....

The LC workshop manual says to disconnect the accelerator pedal to remove the front floor covering. Not remove but only disconnect, which to me is implying disconnect the throttle lever from the back of the pedal so as to lift the floor covering over the pedal.

That photo is not of an original heal mat Bazza. I have a photo from the LC GTR brochure that shows how the pedal fits through a cut out in the heal mat. I just can't post it. I also have the dimensions of where the two screws are in the floor.

The heal mat has a large hole cut out of it and the pedal passes through that hole and is screwed into the floor pan. However, the carpet is not cut; only the heal mat.

I can email pictures, but I don't think I can even PM them unfortunately.

I believe one method is to use a photo hosting service and paste the photo link into the PM.

So I've done a bit more research on the pedal ,I've seen a few screwed down on top of the mat ,but I've also seen the pedal screwed directly to the floor and the pedal passed through the mat ,which I've done .The heal mat sits flush to the pedal once the underlay is cut away .The differences may be an Adelaide Brisbane thing. In any case I think under the carpet looks neater. Thanks fellas.

Right or wrong, I think I'll do it your way Paul.

The pic with heel mat cut looks like a factory cut in vinyl but looks bloody ugly.

Yeah was worth the effort of pulling up the front section of carpet and stuffing around with the scuff plate and kick panel again.

Isn't their two ball type studs that protrude through the floor and the accelerator pedal clips onto them ? Great work looks original
