Hey Gents,

Can anyone give me a measurement for how far the trans tunnel is offset to the drivers side in an Lx, I’m doing a diff conversion and the diff yoke is about 5mm off centre in the trans tunnel.

Cheers

It should be close to the banjo diff yoke offset, that should be easy to measure.

I don't quite know how to measure that... the trans tunnel is from memory not really a symmetrical shape.

You could roughly measure where the floor starts to curve up in different areas. The floors at the front are very different, I do not recall the trans tunnel (further back) generally being a long way from centre (if at all).

A 5mm offset in the diff yoke shouldn't have any consequences though, even much larger asymmetries than that aren't much of a concern. I made and installed a tight, integral tail shaft loop in my floor around the front end of my tail shaft and even the packaging of that didn't much care where the diff pinion was positioned.

Tail shaft tunnel. Carpenters laser under pinion, point at extension housing. Hold up a rule or tape to tunnel profile laser shows offset. Simple 8)

Cheers Guys, I have it sorted. I was being a bit anal, I double checked all of my measurements and the diff is bang on where it needs to be so I guess as stated it’s just the shape of the tunnel that’s making it look off

Just out of interest I the trans tunnel is offset approx 20mm towards the drivers side of the car, as is the pinion on the diff

All because they wanted to avoid having different length axles left to right. Is it really only 20mm?

Same as HK, basically 20mm, probably 3/4” in reality. When it gets real funky is SBC in HK, the engine is titled with the driver’s side higher which pulls the engine about 20mm towards the passenger side. The tailshaft then has to head 40mm sideways to meet the banjo offset the other way.

Had noticed that too, setting up diffs and doing suspension mods.
Off the top of my head thought it was about 20mm at the back seat.

You can see the offset in the rear of a Torana console.
