Hello once again, sorry for the lack of updates. Work has me running around the country at the moment and I havnt been able to work on the Torana. I also won't be able to do jack all until the new year since work has me away till December. Anyway. I'm looking at going manual now rather than auto... I just like manuals more. Also due to the displacement of the engine and the weight of the car I likely won't be able to throw a turbo on the side of it. so I'll be going individual throttle bodies. Hopefully I can make the first barra that doesn't sound good awful.

Great!

With enough cam, compression, and on throttles, no reason it won't sound great.

Standard they're very lacklustre, but no worse than an 2JZ-GE or similar.

The auto FGIII turbo ute I drove as a test drive when I looked at buying one to replace my Hilux went pretty well, I wouldn't have called it lackluster! Although I also drove the same thing in a NA 6 XR6 ute and agree with Heath on that front, it wasn't as responsive as I thought it might be, was pretty tame. Possibly they also turned down the tune on the manual ones to protect the clutch? They did that with the V6 manual Navaras and Hiluxes but that was also because of the extra work a clutch does in a 4x4 offroad.

Can't wait to see the end result, good out of the box thinking.

lol they make a lot of grunt, I was talking about the sound. They sound... like any other standard pedestrian modern in-line six

So on the weekend I discovered there's a dark blue LH/LX sedan with an N/A Barra on throttles, already completed and running. Had no idea anyone had actually done that before.

Tight fit. I saw a Hemi 6 in one once and it was tight as well, but not as much as that.

Update, I'll be speaking with an engineer about forced induction for the car. Preferably a centrifugal supercharger, turbo Barras sound awful so maybe I can get good power and sound with this option. I'm also looking into getting the thing as light weight as possible. Titanium exhaust, carbon fibre tail shaft and fibreglass body panels/doors. My car predates adr29 so I might be able to get away with fibreglass doors.

I've also just found out that aluminium 9 inch housings are a thing. I'll be looking into that to lighten things up some more. Let's see if I can keep the car around 1100kg or less

If you're that keen on weight reduction perhaps reconsider the ZF. You'd save 30 lbs+ going to a TH350, and ~60 lbs if you went Muncie...

I want more than 3 forward gears... Drag racing is boring. Also it's debatable if I'll stay auto, the tkx 5 speed looks good and not too heavy. Also there's companies that make an aluminium housing and carrier for the 9 inch.

Also let's use the metric system please. The imperial system is archaic and useless... We also got rid of it for the most part decades ago.

Oh, as in Ford 228.6mm diff?

LOL!

1,100kg with a Barra would take some work, they are not a light motor and 1,100kg in a road going box Torana with a tough ~400hp drivetrain has probably never been done before.
I would expect my car is as close to that as anyone has ever strived for, but would be thrilled to be corrected. Have a read of my build thread to give you some ideas of weight reduction in a road going Torana.

They are ~1,200 to begin with, and you need to add the delta of a proper diff, a proper manual (TKX is 56kg plus bellhousing, clutch, and flywheel), you're saying some kind of bigger motor (and you want forced induction as well? That shit is heavy) that will have a bigger bore exhaust, hopefully bigger shocks, you will need front brakes...

You're talking >150kg of weight reduction efforts. That is a LOT. I mean what are you going to omit? Slim pickings in a Torana. The rear seat weighs nothing, there's no air con, no sound deadening, there's no stereo. Race doors on the rear would help if you don't care about rear passenger comfort and/or safety.
There's a bit in the bumpers, front seats, brackets and bonnet, they are obviously low hanging fruit. I've done all of that and hundreds of other things and I'm not down 150kg hahaha.
