Its not just the holden v8 this can and does happen to.
I just this week had to oil prime an LS for a guy, did an oil change himself left plug and filter off for about an hour or 2.

Pretty easy to sort on a holden as the oil pump hangs off the engine. In the case of the LS, i found a small very cheap drill driven pump(used for water), worked a treat at filling the oil galleries and priming the oil pump.

Did oil change on 304 vp ute..left it to drain an hour or so then had issues getting big z30 filter back on then realised the part it threads onto was loose in oil pump no allen key big enough in toolbox.

Eventually got it tightened & filter back on & oil topped up....oil light didn't go off straight away but for brief moment thought oh noooooooo.

think on aussie ls cars can take alternator off..bolt on the side there can fill oil pump via an oil way to solve that issue.

Sorry to post here on an old thread!

So I did an oil change on my 308 a week ago and to my horror, had no oil pressure after the oil change.

I tried to pre-empt any issues by just draining the sump and left the filter on, filled fresh oil and no oil pressure with motor running for a minute.

Pulled the pump and stuffed with vaseline and had pressure build up in under 5 seconds. A simple casual 1 hour job took me half the day!

I am going to make myself one of those DIY suction pumps that I found on this forum. I still have my old filter which I will use to build myself an adaptor to fit the oil pump.

I found this pump online which looks similar to the I saw made for the priming.
