Hi looking at an LH SLR rep that has a Saginaw gearbox in it. Seller has said that to fit the box in you now have to shift down for first and up for second? He has the car  a long time so just checking if this is weird or simply ok. No speedo cable is connected is that an easy fix? Also running a Ford 9" diff with torana PCD. Thanks

I’ve seen that done on a UC I bought once with a 283 and Muncie. They had turned the selectors on the side of the box upside down to clear the tunnel. Turned the shift pattern upside down. To fix it you need either to modify the tunnel or spend a little of time bending and fabricating to make it all fit.
Speedo cable will be the same as an aftermarket one to suit TH400 or TH350. A factory HQ-HZ TH400 or HZ-WB TH350 speedo cable should fit too, but routed through the factory LH location may give you speedo shake- others here will know more on this. Look at the HQ-WB with TH400/350 and how the cable is routed and you’ll see what I mean. Even a HK-HG with M21/M22, the cable exits the cabin towards the middle of the firewall and crosses over to the Saginaw output on the passenger side.
You’ll have to muck around with gears to get the speedo right. You can use HK-HG as a guide depending upon your tyre size.

Not sure what the cable is. Almost all Muncie are RH speedo drive (our driver’s side) where Saginaw are LH drive, same as TH350 and TH400. The ends should be the same, the Muncie one should be a lot shorter.

The box should already have the drive adapter in it or it would be leaking oil badly.

The above will be closer to what you need, but as I said the cable is meant to exit the firewall sideways towards the passenger side not straight down like a RH speedo drive does. Find a HQ-WB (without cruise control) but with TH400/350 and you’ll see what I mean. The Trimatic/3-4spd hole has a blank grommet in it and another hole is cut for the cable.

In this thread you can see an LH-LX standard cable exit:
http://www.gmh-toran...do-cable-route/

This one shows you a HK-HG Saginaw, the extra hole is circled and you can just see the blank grommet in between the clutch slave and the booster for a Trimatic or Aussie box cable:
http://www.fastlane....cable-hole.aspx

This EBay ad for a screw shows you the cable route across the firewall:

As I said, others here may be able to give advice if a cable still works OK in a Torana for a LH side speedo drive using the original hole. I’ve had HQ-WB before with the cable left in the Trimatic hole and run across to a TH400 and the speedo never worked right.
