Seems like this one has everyone stumped. I have looked at workshop manual with no luck. Thinking it might have something to do with the handbrake cable?

Marked here as a ferrule.

I'm pretty sure it goes between the shoe and the adjuster to stop them binding on each other..................but it's been a while  :D

Thanks Rodomo I just found it myself on a ebay sale, but your drawing is much better. I was thinking it might stop the retaining spring from moving around, but then I couldn't figure why there was not 2 per wheel, your idea would explain why only 1. Iam assuming the ferrule protrudes through to the spring side of the adjuster

mechanism?

Also your pushrod looks different to  mine, is your picture earlier than the LH SLR?

Yeah sorry. The pic is front drums but same same. The washer part of the ferrule sits between the shoe and adjuster. The collar part locates it.

That's right. The ferrule keeps the adjuster concentric with the retaining rod hole in the shoe. Fit directly under the spring clip.
