Has anyone had problems with oil not draining quick enough on yellow terra cast iron heads. Push rod clearance is very small. The problem I have is on 186 in LJ Torana when engine is working, IE on HWY doing 100 KLM, oil comes out of engine breather on tappet cover.

Thanks Chris

That sounds like blowby, maybe compression pressue is holding the oil up.

Where else is oil coming out? Dipstick tube?
How is the PCV?

How is the bottom end of this engine, piston rings?

Years ago, i had a similar issue as i describe above, and the old engine I had (202), when pulled down had Broken Rings.

Yella Terra cast iron heads are reworked factory Holden heads. Nothing done to pushrod holes.

What rocker cover are you using?

Drill the push rod holes out and run guide plates.
Drill out the drain backs and open up as well.
If your running a HV oil pump, don't. That will be the problem.
Or as Warren is eluding to, your rocker cover is not baffled or you do have excess blowby as stated.

Hi Guy's,  Thanks to all replies.

The oil pump is standard, the engine is in perfect condition, IE no blow by from rings, no bottom end problems, has not done many KLM since complete rebuild.

The tappet cover is a chrome plated cover. The engine has Roller Rockers, Also has triple SU carburetors.

The reply about drilling push rod holes to bigger diameter as well as oil drain holes in head, I have heard of this but don't know specifics, If anyone has done this, is it posable to get more info on doing this to head IE hole sizes etc.

  Thanks  Chris

Is it a chromed gmh rocker cover or an after market one. Most after market covers are very poorly baffled if at all.

It's gotta be lack of baffles in the rocker cover then.

I notice the mention of "triple SU carburettors".

If that is the case how is the PCV set up & how much idle vacuum does the engine pull.

Hi Guy's, The chrome tappet cover is I think after market, IE there are no baffles in proximity of breather on tappet cover, [ point where oil is put into engine ]. There is a baffle where PVC valve is. On that point, PCV pick up is on front and rear carby's, middle carb is vacuum for distributor. Vacuum at idle, would have to check.
