We’ve got 2 SLR looking steering wheels here, both 5mm thick steel, but one with a grain finish on all the rubber grip rubber both around the wheel and where it runs down the spokes a bit, and the other only grain finish where it runs down the spokes and the rest around the wheel smooth finish. Any idea what models (LJ/LH/LX) or variants (XU1/SLR/SS/G-pack) either would’ve been from ?

They were standard on HQ GTS and later SS and Sandman. Later on HJ-HZ GTS, Sandman, LE and SL/E. Optional on UC and WB. That is where most of them come from. GMH also used them on other Torana as you mention. Not sure if 5mm is the thin or thick one, I can’t recall variations in grain though other than worn ones, although I really didn’t start to take notice of them until the early 80’s so wasn’t really exposed to them from new. I’ve got a few in the shed tat have been hanging around since the 90’s off various cars, will check the grain on them.

Original GTS steering wheels were 5mm.  I beleive a change was made around early 1977 to 3mm. All repo wheels today are 3mm.
