Just wondering if anyone can tell me why my instrument cluster lights are so dull on lc/lj gtr dash i have. The 4 gauges (temp/fuel ect are fine) but when driving at night you can hardly see 2 large readouts (speedo/tacho). 4 individual gauges have a circular bayonet style globe, but the lights in question have a thin push in type globe with "T194" printed on them. Should i get a more powerful globe? Would that create more heat? Could it be a poor earth? I have cranked the dial brightness control on dash up as bright as it can go . Any help, suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated: Paul.

Are the bulbs 50 years old, might just be time to replace them?

Also check the voltage at the globe as well.

Hi I put in LED replacements from Ebay when I had the same problem in my WB. I put in green ones to match the paint on the car just for luck. If you go that way rember they only work 1 way round so remove and turn in the holder any that do not work (They are polarity sensative) Lit the dash up a lot better.

Dave, I took your advice and installed led globes to dash lights, the 4 globe ones around $3.00 each. Worked a treat, forgot to take a before photo and flash on camera does not give a true representation of how they look in the dark, but I can assure you are much brighter. Thanks again for your help, very much appreciated. (now I need to get some led globes for indicators/parkers as suggested in another thread I started ages ago) Paul

( parkers and tail/ stop ) in the back of our Nc car, with LEDs.
Current went from best part of 2amps per side when brakes applied, to not much at all. The LED globes were from S/ cheap, aroung $16 ?? each.
We needed to do the swap as the additional gauge lights in the car were loading up the circuit, and swapping globes was easier than running anothet cct.
As an aside, the leds dont work at all if the battery volts drop to around 9v.
Irrelevant normally.

Hey Col, good to know, might do that after switching front indicator/parkers to LED's. Paul
