Hi all, I'm filling in the gap between front inner guard and the chassis rail just wondering what people have done, welded, body filler or sikaflex 227, cheers.

I wouldn't weld it or use body filler. Sikaflex would be the best bet. Or leave it as it is

I welded it on the four door, have yet to see how it holds up but can't really see any issues. Its been a while but pretty sure I did some tidy up on the gap before welding, just leaves enough space for the weld to sink into and be cleaned up flush.

Filler is definitely likely to crack, the Sikaflex is probably a lot quicker and easier and should last.

I welded it and then smoothed it with bog. It took a fair bit of work.
If you're going to weld it, I would recommend getting a blunt chisel or similar and beating the inner guard closer to the rail where you're going to weld it... no use in filling a wide gap with MIG wire when you can get the job done with a smaller weld.
Sikaflex may not be such a bad idea? Never seen it done. It would be a lot easier, but you probably couldnn't achieve the same level of finish.

Hi Peter. I guess it depends on what finish you are trying to achieve. As Heath has said, If you want a smooth finish I wouldn't use sikaflex or the like. I had mine welded up then bogged. Need to be patient and prepared to do a bit of die grinding. Cheers Ron

Nice and gentle with the sanding so you dont mess it up.
It was pretty fiddly but end result came out okay.
