[MFM]

Can anyone decipher the listed part number taken off a set of front LJ shocks (NOS) made by Monroe (maroon colour). Not sure what model (4 or 6cylinder). Part number 2823787. I have an old mechanic who has these still in GMH box (NOS)

This is from the LJ parts manual. It doesn't list that number (but maybe I'm blind?  ) but the other numbers 28237?? all seem to relate to 6 cyl

311,369 and 569 6 cylinder regular bare shocks are stamped  2823787.

 

Purchase these new in box the number as listed in the catalogue becomes 2823788 - bare shock absorber plus the small parts mounting kit and these shocks are still stamped 2823787

 

Same system for 82911 fronts  - bare shocks are stamped  2823791, package part number becomes 2823792 [ bare shock  + mounting kit ]

So these would be NOS 6 cylinder (Standard LJ Torana) and the LJ XU1 were 2823791?There is another number stamped on the shock tube "ZFD5A6-3Y8" not sure if that means anything.

Talking LJ XU1 - yes fronts are stamped GM 2823791 plus other stuff including the valve code . 

 

Rear LJ XU1 are stamped 2823793 plus the relevant other stuff.

 

ZFD number is the valve code and is not the same as the XU1 valve code.
