Hi legends. Read all about the issues of the exposed oil hole on Hydraulic roller lifters in a VN 304 Block but can't find out if the same problem exist with Solid roller lifters. Very confused as to what lifters will work in a VN block without having to bush lifter bores. Anyone used Morel 5343? Thanks for any help cos I'm desperate.

I just test fitted my new crane ultra pro solid roller lifters (pn 24570-16) in a VN block on my crane solid roller cam. At full lobe lift of .400" (.640" at valve) the lifter oil hole is about 2-3mm down the lifter bore. S well covered. Don't know about Morel. I went with the latest cranes mostly because they have a tiny oil feed down through the lifter body to the bearing. Also Crane have a long history with Holden and make make products specifically for Holden V8's.

The old crane hyd roller lifters wouldn’t work in a VT block so we ended up using factory ones.

Was a long time ago though so hopefully the product has improved.

Factory ones still going strong 17 years later.

The lifter bores in the VT blocks were cast different to the earlier ones weren't they?

Possibly. The oiling holes were uncovered with a relatively mild cam with .359 inch lobe lift.

Thanks for the help gents. :clappin:  I was thinking the solid lifters wouldn't need oil pressure to 'pump' up, so the only oiling it needs is to lubricate the roller on the lifter.

All the information I can find is only for Hydraulic roller lifters. Plenty of good brand solid roller lifters out there (and Hydraulic also) for sale just need to know if they work in a VN type block.  For once in a 'blue moon' driving car Crane are excessively expensive and rebushing lifter bores in a 30 year old block, is out of the question.

You also need the oil to go through the lifter, then pushrod to reach the valve train for lubrication.
