Hey Fellas,

I am upgrading from the old rusted Girlock cast iron front calipers on my 78 UC to PBR alloy calipers, When I bolt the PBR alloy calipers on loose, they slide back and forward fine but when I tighten the caliper bolts, the caliper seizes on the slides.

It seems like the bolt holes are not perfectly aligned or are drilled on a slight angle.

Has anyone here encountered this problem?

I stuffed about with it for hours and I'm out of ideas to solve it.

Chuck them and go back to cast calipers, two pistons work better.

You mean HQ rotors? original diameter on HQ stubs or machined down to 256mm fitted on UC stubs?

Sorry Fellas,

HQ Rotors, turned down 6mm on radius.

Torana alloy PBR calipers with HX Holden cast iron slides

Honestly, I tried to upload pics but gave up because I am not hosting pics anywhere. I also searched the site for an explanation how to easily add pics but didn't get any hits.

I actually solved this. When you tighten the fastener to secure one of the the caliper slider tubes to the stub axle, the tube is not perpendicular to the mounting face. Both slider tubes must be perpendicular, if not, the caliper will jamb.

I stuck a 10 Thou feeler gauge between the stub axle and the caliper slider tube, then I tightened the caliper fastener. This straightened up the slider tube and the caliper now slides freely.

Not sure how I can fix this long term.
