Hey guys, long time no see.

I occasionally pop to have a look to see what everyone is up to. Great to see old and new projects.

So I'm making an LX roof skin from scratch which needs to be "finish wheeled" front and back sections, canter rails need to be completed (Bent to correct angle and shrunk at front and back sections). The canter rails 90 degree bends I've left till the end as there needs to be (from memory) a 90 degree bend for the railing. So I cant do this bend or it will lock the canter rail in place.

Rear section needs shrinking to get get the correct curve, front section needs a recess for the front window to drop in.

Over all curve of the roof was ok till I bent down the rear section, the correct curve will come back when I shrink the rear section as mentioned previously.

Question is, how does the front section attach to the front pillars? I have an LX shell I normally copy off but I don't want to tear it apart.

Has anyone got pics of how it joins, cross section?

Thanks Guys. If moderators need to move this post to fabrication or something its all good.

Older pics, i thought they were more up to date. Ill post more later

Wow! What he said ^ :spoton:

Once you've finished and you tally up all the hours you've spent, remember that some guy at GMH 45 years ago just used to hit a button and the press went "ka-choonk" and spat out a roof skin in about three seconds flat! :P

Thanks guys.

Any pics of how the front of the roof skin joins the front pillars would be great.

Yes a press and tooling would be great but big bucks. This roof skin is probably a weeks work but I've spread it over several months.

The lead has been removed here although the weld is still obscuring the edges a bit. You can see there's a small recessed flange that allows room for welding and filling.

Thanks mate. That's a good pic, looks like the roof skin over laps the pillar, and its the pillar that has the small recess for the roof skin to sit into?

Looking awesome. Well done. Is this for your car or just to see if you can do it?

Thanks mate.

Its for a customer in Queensland. I've made similar low crown panels before but this is the first LX Hatch roof.

Previous project. This is the rear roof structure. Need to streamline the manufacture of this soon.
