What does a totally bare red 308 block weigh? I had to carry this one of mine across the property to the other shed, put it on the ground, then clear a spot for it, lift it back up from the ground and put it away. Just wondering if this twitch in my back is to be expected.

Good question, Heavey as I recall. Too heavy now, I would not lift one up from the ground today .I already have done plenty of damage to the back over the years

LOL, makes me think of the good ol days when cement bags were 40kg not these whimpy OH&S compliant 20kg bags.

Used to carry 100lb (45kg) rolls of tar paper up ladder on to roof on shoulder. Used to have couple stubbies and couple pipes. 25degree pitch roofs, two storeys, no scaffolding, no balustrading. Used to...........

Probably why we all have buggered backs, shoulders and knees now. I used to be able to carry a complete front section of a Eaton 18 speed road ranger transmission with all the gears installed from one bench to another. How stupid was I.

I remember many moons ago - I was up at a local wreckers (Pick a Part in Kilsyth for the Vic folk) - and they had an "all you can carry for $100" sale - or something to that effect. Can't remember if it was $100, but it was cheap. You had to walk a certain distance and carry everything you wanted in one go to get the deal. Highly entertaining watching all these dudes juggling all kinds of car parts to secure their deal of the century.

Then we watched in amazement as one guy (a big guy) - carried a complete engine - must have been a complete 4 or 6 cylinder of some sort - he did it, but we always wondered how much money he then spent at the back doctor recovering! No thanks!

Nothing worse than back problems - you only get one spine, so look after it!

Yep. Just had cortisone injected into mine, trying to put off the fusion op for as long as possible. Apparently I fractured a vertebrae somewhere along the line.

Abuse and trauma no doubt bugger your back. However my back is never better than when doing honest work in moderation, stone walling, lifting, shovelling and barrowing. Correct posture, muscle tone and technique are key. I'm lucky I never permanently damaged my back. Though I had poor posture when young, in 62 years I have fractured two toes, sum total, and that was this year. 8 ) 8 )

Not too heavy if it's an empty bare block & lots of points to grab....add sump or leave crank & cam in the block they get heavy real quick.

Got a couple of 308 blocks was going to throw out but they're so hard to find now thought better hang on to junk blocks for now & hid them under house out of sight....after carrying them 15 metres or so from garage then dragged underneath house.

Not keen to repeat that again or move complete diffs lol

Was way easier during apprentice days when we were much stronger & dumber!
