Hi all,

I got my choke all sorted now for the SU's which worked out well, started up a few times now with the choke and it's instantly alive!  http://www.gmh-toran...triple-hs6-sus/

The previous owner welded up the firewall hole for the choke cable, so at the moment I just have the choke cable coiled in the engine bay.  I have a rough idea where the hole should be re-drilled, so I can route the choke cable through the switch panel.  What I am not sure of is how many mm the hole should be and which is the correct firewall grommet for the choke cable.  I figure if I can find out which is the correct grommet I can measure it and drill the appropriate sized hole.

I grabbed the grommet kit image from the Rares site as below.  Does anyone know if the choke cable grommet for the LC/LJ is the one that I underlined red or the one I underlined in green?

I still have the one underlined in red in the box and used most of the others during the resto, so I'm guessing it's the one.  The cable seems to fit nice and snug, but putting the vernier on the grommet indent and its just on 20mm.  Seems like a mega massive hole for a little skinny choke cable, which has put me in doubt that it's correct.

I believe the grommet you need is the one underlined with green.

Ah thanks Dave much appreciated as always.  That makes more sense, it looks more in proportion.  I'm just going to have to have a dig around and see where it went, because I may have used it somewhere it wasn't supposed to be used!

Hi Steve,

If you want pics and measurement for hole I have an exposed firewall I can check.

Thanks Marty and Dave for your help.  Drilled the pilot hole checked where it came out under the dash, and it popped out of a spot that I could see had been welded and finished smooth so worked out perfectly.

Also worthy of note for all is Rares only sell the choke cable grommet as part of the LC/LJ firewall grommet set as per my original picture above.  I either used mine elsewhere or lost it from the set, so being stingy didn't want to buy the whole set again for the one grommet.  Clarke Rubber sell a range of generic grommets and item number 1508 (5.5mm inner dia, 17mm outer dia, 11mm slot dia) was a perfect fit for me, looks identical to the Rares grommet and under $2 if anyone is looking for one.

Steve, did your firewall grommet kit come with the boot in the top left hand corner? Couldn't find where the hell it goes on an LC Torana?

Don't waste time scratching your head over it. It is for HK Holden. Nothing to do with LC/LJ.

Hey Dave,

Yeah it was included in my kit too.  The car is finished and it's still in the box!  I couldn't see where it could possibly go either.  It almost looks like a mini version of the boot at the back of the brake booster.  Way too small though.

I wondered if it was maybe for a 4cyl Torana.  It looks like a boot you might see on a cable or hydraulic clutch mech on some cars.  My be a question for Rare Spares technical team, if they are adding these to the kit which everyone is paying for but no one is using.

Steve.

Doing a search these eBay site are selling it as a brake booster boot HK on.  Looks completely different to my original booster PBR booster boot.  Maybe it's a generic one intended to replace the booster boot.

It is the firewall pushrod boot for the HK, T, G Holdens with power assisted brakes. Nothing to do with any Torana.

Steve.

I presented RSP with the facts about this issue a few years ago but nothing has changed.
