I think the only difference is the little valve thing behind the brass seat

Drum brakes have a residual check valve in the mc which maintains some pressure in the hydraulic lines when brake pedal is released. This doe#mt work with discs as it loads the pads against the disc. Drum brakes have springs which tension them in the unbraced position whereas calipers don’t. Generally all that is required to convert between drum and disc master cylinders is to add or remove the residual check valve from the front circuit. I hope this helps clarify.

Thanks Clay

I was as clear as mud - would this master cylinder originally been on a 4 wheel drum brake car from standard or original.

I have another master cylinder that is marked disc so from that I was assuming that this was on a disc brake (front) car

cheers

Drum stamped on the big nut identifies it as originally being made for a car with front drum brakes. Disc obviously means front disc brakes. Easy to swap the big nuts over if the drum brake master is better than the disc brake one.
