Did a little research on new alloy heads, thought I'd share the published comparisons for 550 lift.

Nice work.
Good info.
People do need to be mindful, the bigger the port, its not necessarily the best for the combo they are running.
Its about maximizing air speed for your setup.

Nice work Lee. I would like to fins someone with a VN Group A head to test before and after porting. They were a totally different casting to the others with a lot more meat above the inlet runners.

Me too Laurie- love those motors, If I recall they are the only factory Holden heads with "D" shaped exhaust ports?, as well as some other improvements as you mentioned.

D port heads were too big for majority of applications.

vn efi heads were pick of the bunch usually least core shift & when upsized to 2.02 intake valve & de-dagging/clean up they flow well...best bang for buck.

AussieV8 forum & TK would have cool info of what stock heads then larger valves & again with different port work figures for both siamese & symetrical heads.

Edelbrock heads were good bang for buck with minor porting when first came out...prices almost tripled now yet no availibilty anyway.

Even SSS or whatever they are had set of their own heads to go with copied manifolds.

Back when it was dollar for dollar, I bought a set of Edelbrock aluminium heads from the 'States for 1200 bucks with valves and springs.

I've got a set of VC heads on my qt308 with YT rockers, worth porting etc or should I just go with a set of BCast?

For clarity its a 308 unknown mods bought it in my Lx Hatch. Looking at a freshen up and cam.

Thanks

I don't know of any engine builders in Sydney personally, but if you find someone who knows what they are doing, give them your new cam specs and let them port your current heads. You will find that even if you can find a set of B Cast heads, they will be worth big dollars anyway. Or maybe have a look for 2nd hand YT alloy heads on Gumtree and the like?

Thanks mate appreciate the advice. So far two sets for sale of the Bcast 1.8k & 3.5k over priced if anything.

Would appreciate if someone could recommend someone in Sydney
Cheers

West End Performance in Campbelltown have been known for their good work.

HB Sales in Wollongong have a good reputation too if they are still operating. Been a while since I talked to them though.

Is Lynx Engineering still going?

Cheers

Rob

Is Lynx Engineering still going?

Lynx closed their machine shop decades ago, to concentrate on importing & reselling. They moved to the Central Coast a while ago.

Recently they sold out to new owners in Melbourne.
