T56's (non-Magnum) and TR6060's are OEM gearboxes from certain Commodores for example.
It's not that they are "too much work" to fit. They take a bit more work, and have advantages and disadvantages, but I explained my preference above.

Weight is also a factor. They weigh an extra 35kg over a Muncie.

Wow.

A TKO 600 is 48kg which is well and truly heavy enough. The six speeds are 10-18kg more depending on the spec I believe.

Equivalent to having lightweight bumpers and brackets on both ends of your car.

^ if you're going to have extra weight anywhere, down low in the centre of the car is where you want it

If you've driven a car with a T56/TR6060 you'll know that there really is no need for 2 overdrive gears. As Heath said, 4 gears for getting up to speed and one for coasting is plenty.

I suggest you find a few people with one of the tremec boxes and ask them how the shift quality is. Not the smoothest out there. The Toyota boxes have much better shift quality and you can still get a new R154 which will be more than adequate for what you intend to do.

With the TKX the shift issues have supposedly been resolved, but I would like to talk to someone who has fitted one.
