A bloke I know has been a regular at Summernats for a long time.

He has a pretty awesome Capri that is well known around the country.

Saw a conversation between him and a few of his like minded mates on Facey.

Security on the first day was really hard on them for minor infringements, and quite a few had their entrant passes removed.

Lots of warnings issued by text from the organisers.

Apparently a group of entrants approached the management and complained about how strict it was.

Management then told security to ease up.

Apparently a number of the security people were over enthused with their power.

Some of the group have said that they probably wont attend in the future.

They think management has turned it more into a music festival for hippies than a premier car event.

I haven't been for a decade or so, but before that I was a regular spectator and/or entrant, and my biggest gripe was that security would jump on any entrant that looked sideways at them but nobody ever policed the spectators.

 

There might be a hundred pissed idiots at any one time staggering around beside the street circuit, leaning into cars, asking for rides, harassing girls, bumping into, rubbing along or actually banging on car panels, etc. I once saw an entrant kicked out because he got out and snotted some idiot who broke his antenna off, yet the idiot was allowed to wander off and continue his antics!

 

Everybody oohs and ahhs at the nice shiny cars but some people just have no idea how much work goes into them... or at least show zero respect for it.

But yeah it's weird place to go if you've missed a few years you're hanging to go...then when you're there on Saturday you're happy to go home when arvo chaos is done lol

They were one of the in things back in the day.

A bit flashier than the A9X scoop.

Thousands of them were fitted to just about everything.

And the moulded in ones invariably started cracking off within weeks.

Update from the fellas I know.

Came into my feed last night.

With the relaxation of the security for indiscretions, they are now giving it the thumbs up.

Apparently one bloke who was stripped of his entry pass was solely for revving the engine while cruising.

No burnout, loss of traction or anything like that.

Apparently he appealed his exclusion after they softened up, but to no avail.

 

Have been tempted to go for years, but as it seems to just be a skid fest as much as anything, I think I will still pass.

But I guess I could steer clear of the bogans and just look at workmanship.

Maybe one day, when I have something myself that might be worthy of being looked at.
