I had a bloke ask me to have a look at his FJ fitted with a blue 202, said the new hydraulic lifters were noisy & the engine needed a tune. So I had a look at the usual things, it had a slight miss, so I lifted the rocker cover & this is what I found. The valve locks had been fitted to the second groove in the valve stems, which increased the closed spring pressure to 180lb, open at 230lb & some of the retainers were contacting the valve guide which was collapsing the lifter. The things you find.
