I've been given some Girlock calipers to reco for a August 71 GTR. In the box is 4 calipers, 2 like the top & 2 like the bottom. I have about 8 calipers on the shelf, plus the pair from my LJ which are all like the bottom caliper in the pic. Which is correct for the the 71 car?

This is the back of the Girling caliper.

What was the Girling caliper used on, or are they a replacement?

Girling was used on HR... Girlock was the changeover on HK

Girling usually have a ton of casting and patent #'s on them.. That ones an early Girlock

I've seen a couple of different versions of the Girlock ... I have seen those odd Girlocks before too

Not specifically off anything...probably just early calipers I guess.. circa 68 maybe.... likely swapped out as exchange units at some time

Looks like its got a broken ezi out in a broken bleeder.

Were the calipers coated or painted from factory, or plain cast?

They need to be painted rocket red or vermilion fire so they flash behind the jellys or splatts.

No they don't ! Black is just fine since it's no longer 1983.

If they were just cast iron, they would be rusty.

I believe it's black, but shit paint, probably not applied properly + obviously they get rather warm & so it goes right off, there's enough humidity in the air that raw cast iron would surface rust. Just like your headers will be.
