yellow chromate removal ?

How do you remove yellow chromate coating from carbys  ?

 

have tried heaps of stuff but doesn't want to come off

 

Want to remove it so i can polish the carby , not keen on sanding it off

I soaked a bit of a scrap holley in clr for a while to find out, turned it nice and grey.
Cleaned up nice with fine steelwool, not sure about doing the nooks and crannys, though.

The stuffs in Ian's link above are better than mine. From memory, the clr leaves a
grey slightly powdery residue that feels dusty to the touch and definately needed
a scrub to polish it up.
Maybe best for showerheads only

Tested out cleaning the top part of the carby

 

Could not find any of the stuff mentioned so i drowned it in carby cleaner then scrubbed it with wire brush 

it got rid of most of the colour then polished it 

 

Now to do the rest of it plus polish that part a bit better
